All good reads... :sarcasm:

Loved this book, read it twice.

Home Ice by Jack Falla was a nice read as well.

Also enjoyed "Pride on the Mount"

I'm currently reading The Game (Dryden) and love it.
Funny how many of us are reading it at the same time.

Others I enjoyed...

Boys of Winter
Spendid is the Sun
Hockey: A People's History (McKinley)

One I did not care for was And Howe!

Anyone have a review of Scotty Bowman: A Life in Hockey ?

Anyone else read The Tropic of Hockey by Dave Bidini? I love it, one of my favourite reads ever (i'm a big travel buff as well, so it's the perfect read for me)

can't believe no one has mentioned the game by ken dryden.

IMO The Game by Ken Dryden is the best SPORTS book ever written. I would highly recommend it and that is from a Leaf fan whereas the book is about the dreaded Habs !!!!!

just read "The Game" by Ken Dryden and as far i can jugde it everything good said about it is right. The best read i had lately. I'd really like to read some more of the mentionend books but it's pretty hard/expensive to get them over here.

The Tropic of Hockey - Dave Bidini
The Game - Dryden

"Open Net" by George Plimpton, when he played goalie for the Bruins in an exhibition

boys of winter...about the miracle u.s. team of 1980.

The Boys of Winter by Wayne Coffey is a fun, fast read. It's about the 1980 US olympic team.

Thank you all for your recomendations as I have since read the 4 books mentioned above and enjoyed each one of them.

5. Play the Man by Brad Park
4. The Boys of Winter by Wayne Coffey
3. Score by Gene Hart
2. The Game by Ken Dryden
1. BALLAD OF THE WHISKEY ROBBER by Julian Rubinstein (this is a must!!!!!!!)

Also, Total Hockey and Twenty Years (1967-87) are great historical copy. As for The Rookie, the Sidney Crosby Story, by Shawna Richer, skip it. It's awful.

A few good ones I have read:

"Pal Hal" by... Andrew Podneiks, I think. Great in-depth biography of Harold Ballard.
"My Life In Hockey" by Brian McFarlane - excellent stories throughout.
"(can't remember the title)" - autobiography by Bobby Baun
"Tiger" - Dave Williams' autobiography, it gets right in the nitty gritty.

Mainly, though, I am a history nerd when it comes to hockey books. I like:
"Ultimate Hockey", "The 20th century Hockey Chronicle", "Total Hockey", just aquired "The Hockey Compendium" and "Without Fear", which both look excellent, and can't wait till my copy of "The Trail Of the Stanley Cup" arrives in the mail.
