Why? Bands evolve and the sound changes, sometimes for the better most times not. A lot of bands and musicians don't know when to stop when they're creatively drained. Immolation is one of my favorite bands but the time frame I specified they were writing their best material, the newer material is still good but what made them a favorite of mine was their 90's and very early 2000's catalog.

Yeah, if it weren't for the fact that getting too granular is tedious to read, I think everything should include that caveat. Virtually nobody stays consistently good for their career.

Was gonna make a thread about this, but found this old one in the HFBoards search, thought I'd bump.

Let's see your lists!

Haven't heard of most of those bands other than Burzum and Emperor. But im guessing it's a list full of black and death metal based on the names, lol

Yeah, just the best / heaviest riffing black metal or death metal I could think of yesterday. I was going for a medieval theme with some of the bands, but some of them fell outside my top 10 so I didn't mention it. Usually I'd be throwing in trash and grindcore too.
