JVR was pretty solid in Toronto, so this year is probably an anomaly due to injury and fit.
But with JVR, TK and Voracek, I doubt the Flyers will look to add another offense first forward without dumping one of these three.
Toronto shows what happens when you have a lot of offensive forwards who consider defense to be an afterthought.
Meanwhile, Cooper has TB focusing on forechecking more, scoring less, and they've got the best record by a wide margin.

Same on defense, Flyers don't need more offense from their defensemen, they need more defense.

Though replacing Gordon will help, but don't be surprised if some favorites get benched next year for a couple games while the new coach makes his priorities understood - whether it's Q or Keefe, I doubt free lancing, cherry picking, bad cross ice passes, ill advised stretch passes, failure to back check or to come back and help your defensemen will be tolerated.

If he was actually doing that much harm it’d be visible enough to have the entire fanbase in an uproar, even without looking at that stat.

I’m not buying it.
GAR on evolving wild is Fenwick based. JVR has never been a fancy stats darling. He isn't strong defensively and the team is better off limiting his time in the d zone. Most of his TOI this season has come with Gordon at the helm which means his CF/FF are going to look more caved in than others on the team. He isn't bad 1 on 1 though and for all his flaws, he is scores well. He isn't a high volume guy that scores by putting a ton of shots on net, but rather making his chances count. That is the grain of salt in his GAR totals. Yes he loses shot battles, yes he should be sheltered at ES, yes he scores well. Despite the numbers saying he should be getting scored on more, that hasn't happened.

It’s the perception of the players on the team. The Phillies and Sixers are loaded with new stars so blame falls first on the coach. Giroux and Couturier have been in Philly for 8 years and have gone thru 4 coaches. The blame eventually falls on the players.
I don't think so. It's a reflection of how much effort the fans are willing to learn about the teams and watch and analyze what a coach is perceived to be responsible for.

Kapler went from idiot; to OMG, are the Phillies in first; to m'eh, in one season. With the first series sweep, he's good again.
Peterson still gets his criticism for in game decisions, a year removed from winning it all.
And Brown was a pitiful man with an impossible job, who then made the playoffs somewhat unexpectedly and wasn't smart enough to coach out of a wet paper bag. There's 5 games left in the season, and it's possible/probable he eclipses last year's win total, but he is still bad?

The local beats were all defending Hextall and Hakstol until they were fired. Ergo, unless a fan was one of the Stepfords, they had no idea who Hakstol was, nor why there were boos for him at games.

There's an inverse to the players bearing responsibility for 4 coaches in 8 years, and that's there hasn't been a steady voice to give direction. Had Giroux and Couturier had a better coach, for longer, the intended design of play would've been instituted and the players perform to expectations. (Plus, because hockey is different, two guys cannot carry a team, there were failings of roster construction for most of those 8 years.)

The players are responsible to a large degree for team performance, with a huge portion due the GM, and a smaller portion due the coach. The comment had more to do with the general fan sentiment toward coaches being readily available and nigh-fever pitched for all three other teams, than the Flyers. The Flyers coaching job is the cushiest of all three, by far.

I feel like he’s also been better than usual lately, both skating-wise and defensively.

In the last few games he’s looked quicker and he’s had a handful of really nice little puck steals, a couple which have even ended up as goals.

Obviously the guy isn’t Couturier and isn’t someone you want playing any more in his own zone than absolutely necessary, but my point was that he’s been very good in the top six this year and there’s no way he’s our 11th best forward (334th, or whatever, in the league).

If the Eagles don't win another Super Bowl it proves that Nick Foles is better than Carson Wentz

The GM being Holmgren.

Hextall's hands were tied when he took over, Holmgren had blown the cap, traded draft picks and the farm system consisted of Ghost, Laughton, Morin, Cousins, Leier, Hagg, Manning and Stolarz.
Hextall started the rebuild but either wouldn't or wasn't allowed to call it a rebuild and commit to it.
Still, the only draft pick traded for a player was a 3rd for Mrazek, the only FAs were MDZ, Schultz and Weise on low-cost deals.

You would be surprsied.
At what though? I mean he’s at a 60 point pace, good for the same 30-35 goals that was penciled in if healthy. We signed him at a standard cap hit for that production, shorter term than expected and with no movement restrictions. At worst he’s a movable asset, at best the guy provides us depth scoring on the wing.

JVR GAR
2017-18 10.7
2016-17 10.1
2015-16 7.0

I'd give him a pass this season, and maybe see if Bozak is available. :sarcasm:

There is a balance issue, if you have JVR at LW, you don't want Voracek or TK at RW on the same line.

Voracek isn’t a problem defensively. And him with jvr wouldn’t be bad. Voracek is great at possession. He’s a winger and a selke candidate but not a problem

This is bold. I’d put his defense as lackadaisical. Which isn’t a bad thing per se, but if you put him and jvr together, the only center they should be with is coots unless you’re going to shelter the hell out of them.

With Fletcher's influence....Kirill Karprizov would be a player the Flyers should be in on!
He would be only 23 years old after his contract with the KHL expires after the 2020 season...
He's one of the most talented players not in the NHL and if Fletch could secure him in the Flyers lineup...Kariprizov would be a game changer!
With that acquisition.... it could only help with luring the Bread Man!
