I exchanged emails with Kevin Casey who is the top dog with Comcast in the Northeast

http://corporate.comcast.com/news-information/leadership-overview/kevin-m-casey

to ask him if Comcast had any plans to show all Center Ice games in HD

His answer

Thank you for reaching out to me. The good news is that we have launched in beta mode for both MLB and NHL as long as you have our X1 set top box.

All you need to do is say “MLB Extra Innings Beta†or “NHL Center Ice Beta†and it will take you to the HD content.

If you do not have a voice remote or does not like to use that function, you can find the beta title by going into the MLB/NHL section on the guide. Details below.

I hope this helps.
Sincerely, Kevin Casey

Do you know if this for the entire country or just the Northeast?

This is great news for everyone with access to it. It's a drag watching a bad feed of a great game when two bottom feeders are going at it in HD.

Most likely it will be X1 nationwide

Awesome - got my fingers crossed!

I wonder if a price increase is inevitable? Not that it's a bad thing; it's a better product with every game in HD.

I never could find the rhyme and reason behind which games were in HD; it was only 2 games a night on our package, and they were random at best.

The next thing will be letting viewers select which feed they get. There were nights I really missed being able to listen to Jack Edwards. And if there was a way to absolutely never under any circumstances get the home feed of the Florida Panthers, I'd pay extra for that. ;)

Thanks again, Fenway, for sharing this! There was no mention of this on our cable system, so I would've never known.

There were no games going tonight when I tried it, but I got to the menu as easily as your friend described. I just spoke "NHL Center Ice Beta" and voila - the menu appeared.

I'm anxious to try it tomorrow night for the Bruins. If this means I can get HD feeds of any game I want, with the announcing team of my choice, the value of NHL Center Ice just skyrocketed.
