So, that was a fun game last night, huh? Shame there were no potential swings in the standings, OH MY GOD, MINNESOTA

So uhh... that kind of makes tonight an important game for us. Division wise, a win tonight eliminates Florida from contention and pushes Tampa to the brink. And it moves us one day closer to possibly clinching home ice throughout the playoffs. That would be fun.

So apparently some things went down across the league last night. Tom Wilson, I hear, is back in the news. Its probably time the league steps in.

Back to us, because that's what we're all really here about. Dundon seems to have done a pretty good job since he took over, no?

Team has been playing pretty well lately. What's our secret, you ask?

Guys let's keep @Svechhammer employed win this!!!

Score Moar goals.. Break them early and have a nice easy win.. Don't Break them like Tom Wilson would. (Yeah I went there)

Isn't our magic number with Florida still 3?
3, but.... I mean they're f***ed. They need us to lose out in regulation and they need to win out. They're done.

Tampa is in a similar boat. One more win by us, and they will need us to lose out in regulation.

At this point, while they are both mathematically still alive for the Central title, realistically, they're only playing for home ice in the opening round.

Florida also using up a lot of OT and late goal magic in the regular season. They are definitely a team that can't handle their shit without making it interesting and having it come down to the wire. Not a good trait to be bringing into the playoffs. Can't repeat that forever.

This is what we're playing for tonight.

  • Lose tonight, and it opens a little window of hope for Tampa (and a big window for Vegas).
  • Win tonight, and the options narrow rapidly down to things that are very very unlikely to happen.

My proposal is that we should win tonight, though I am open to rebuttals and alternative approaches.

I agree, and along those lines:

I agree, but the important part here is that any win over our next 4 puts Tampa in a spot where they need to win out.

Against Dallas-Dallas-atFlorida-atFlorida

Mathematically, they're still alive. Realistically, they're probably already done.

The Colorago-Vegas game means a heck of a lot. Technically, one stumble by us, and Colorado can still catch us if they win out. The important thing about the race is that even though Vegas and Colorado have games in hand, they still won't catch us if we all win out. So they must win all their games and hope we drop at least one. Any hiccup, and they need us to stumble.

If we win tonight, that makes things incredibly difficult for everyone in regards to catching us.

Delia vs Mrazek tonight, I am assuming.

We should be better against Delia tonight. We'll have a day to go over where to shoot on him.

Chicago's effort is the wildcard here. Do they pack it in because they are eliminated? Are they sharper because the pressure isnt there?

A win basically seals the Central for us. up 4 points (at a minimum) with 3 to go is tough to overcome.

I mean... I don't think they had pressure on them last night. Yeah, they were still mathematically in it, but in reality they were done. They had no reasonable hope of making the playoffs before the game last night, so I don't know what would be different between then and now.

The biggest thing is the back to back. Did the Canes take their foot off the gas to conserve energy for tonight? I'm going to think they did a bit. Did that give Chicago a little boost that they could carry into tonight? Hopefully not, but that wasn't a great late 2nd and 3rd period by us, so you do have to wonder.

Do we really care that much about having the best record over Vegas/Colordao? I mean I guess with re-seeding and home-ice advantage in a theoretical cup finals against Vegas or Colorado it could matter but I don't think that's all that important, more important just locking up the top seed in our division and a better record than the East/Canada teams and being healthy going into the playoffs (plus our last 2 games are against Nashville, if we have the division locked up by then I'd absolutely rest players in those games and help them out so we are more likely to face them than Dallas)...

We have no idea how the divisions stack up against each other so in a theoretical final 4 of Carolina, Vegas/Colorado, Toronto/Edmonton, and any of the 4 East teams does it really matter who we play in the final 4 round? Toronto is ahead of all the East teams right now and if we don't get the best record we'd play them instead of the East winner, Edmonton is behind them so vice versa. But who knows if those 2 Canada teams are actually worse/better than whichever team comes out of the East? I'm not sure that seeding then is so important, just so long as we avoid Vegas/Colorado before the Cup finals (which already seems like a given). Home ice advantage in the cup finals would be nice but I don't really think we need it. If we win out and get the best record then great, but I won't be upset if Vegas finishes with 1 more point than us or whatever. I'm not superstitious about the Presidents trophy either...

Vegas is planning to have full capacity arena for the playoffs. Having a potential home ice advantage over them in a situation like that would be a really good thing.
