To plays devils advocate he got a lot of his points because of lots of ice time i on a poor NYR team. Similar to how Boedker was putting up decent points in Phoenix with plenty of ice time. Hayes is a 30-40 point pk specialist on contending teams. Winnipeg proved that.
He scored at a 53 point pace the 20 reg season games he played with WPG?

No, he's not. He was poorly used my Maurice who quite clearly valued his known players over those of trade deadline acquisitions.

Hayes is not a 30-40 point center on a contending team. He is a quality, 2nd line center. Your argument just clearly shows how uneducated you are on this specific player.

If Winnipeg could replace Little with Hayes long term for the same money, I think that would be the best plan. Little has a NMC though and a lot of term left.

If you assume Lemieux is only going to be a fourth liner. He certainly looked like more than that as a Ranger.
I think at most he's a 3rd line filler, potentially a full-time 3rd line winger if everything goes right. You can tell he was running out of gas after getting too many minutes from us. Perhaps it's conditioning since he wasn't use to that at an NHL level, but we definitely needed to scale back his minutes.

As for Hayes, this argument of he only put up that many points because NYR were a bad team is pretty laughable. So he can excel playing with bad players, but on a contending team, he's crap? A lot of players do put up more points when they're given a bigger role and more valuable minutes.

Hayes didn't do a lot with the minutes he was given, but watching the games, it's hard to blame Hayes as the reason they didn't advance, or that this trade in general prevented Jets from advancing to the next round.

Lemieux is probably something of a David Clarkson - he's a f***ing pain in the ass to play against, he's going to focus more on getting you off your game than being on his, and he's going to have a year or two where you think he just might be better than that. Not a player you let go of easily, imo - full marks to Gorton for getting him out of the 'Peg and on the Rangers here.

Hayes is interesting. I've obviously watched a lot of him, and he's kind of like Martin Hanzal without the injuries. Big, rangy, responsible, but can put up some points. He's got some moves and a good offensive mind, but isn't the most awesome at executing on it. Give him the right wings and he probably puts up 60 or so. He's definitely not the reason Winnipeg lost, and he's gonna get paid.

My bigger concern is why the Winnipeg GM has decided two years running to fix an obvious hole in the lineup (2C) with rentals twice now. He's clearly sent the message that Little isn't cutting it - maybe it's just time to cut bait on Little?

Hayes played mostly on the 3rd and 4th line from what i watched. Scored 2 goals, 1 assists.
Icetime:
15.36
9.39
11.32
11.15
8.32
15.19

Not really much icetime for a center with 55 points in 71 games this season. Only played 6 minutes on the PP with the second unit. I only watched one game in this series but doesnt exactly look like he was put in a position to produce much offensively...

Welcome to PoMo hockey, where you never know how he's going to misuse guys from one game to the next.
