For Batherson you'd take the 5 year because he would still be RFA. Would be a harder decision if you changed it to 6 vs 8.

The other 2 would be UFA after a 5 year extension, so you take the 8 and buy 3 UFA

Only 6 season - but I stuffed up on age (whoops - sorry). Ignore that comment.

Batherson has only 1 NHL season accrued for UFA purposes. Players have to be on the roster for 40+ games to count as an NHL season for UFA purposes.

Selected 5 years for all 3 of them. If they excel over the 5 years, then try to sign them going into more expensive UFA years or trade them and rebuild.

1) 7M x 5yrs for Brady

Expensive given the RFA years, but better than losing him. 8.5M x 8yrs is asinine given the fact that, for all of his qualities, he has yet to score 50 points in a season.

2) 6M x 8yrs for Batherson

Close enough to fair value today and very manageable cap hit moving forward given the kind of offensive player he projects to be.

3) 6.25M x 8yrs for Norris

Could, should and would be an absolute steal.

Brady - 8 years x 8.5 mil
Norris - 8 years x 6.25 mil
Batherson - 5 years x 4.25 mil

Simply put, I have no faith in this team retaining UFAs. Brady at 8 years gives us a better window into winning, and I think he ends up worth it or close to with it; if he’s 1 mil overpaid, I couldn’t care less.

Norris is a C who can play all-situations, he’ll be worth that if not more easily. For a 1B centre, that’s a good contact and I think Norris is just that.

Batherson is good, but you can’t go 8 years on everyone. I’d prioritize Chabot (already done), Brady, Jimmy and Sanderson as I feel they are our key players. From there it’s centres and a goalie. Too many more important pieces than Batherson to justify giving him 8 years at this point.

I clicked the Norris deal faster than hell, looool. 6 mill for him will either be great value or exceptional value. Easy deal to make.
Batherson I have faith in to be elite player and would sign for 8 years but wouldnt mind the 5 year deal. Locked up Brady for 5 years.
