Would you like to see the coaches challenge expanded to penalties?

No. Hockey should not take after bouncehoop in any way.

While we're on the topic of complaining about penalties. Isn't it stupid that a bloody lip after a high stick is a double minor? If the league is so scared of a drop of blood either make them wear cages like the ladies or (preferably) just tell them a bloody lip or chin is the price you pay for playing a physical game! And don't get me started on kicking players out of a faceoff or that dumbass puck over glass rule...

Compared to having a game 7 tying goal taken off the board because some nameless stooge in Toronto claimed to see something that literally zero replays showed? Absolutely.

Drop off-side challenges and allow penalty challenges.

In my opinion as long as the total amount of them stays the same I don't care what they're able to challenge.

(Preferably I'd trash the whole challenge thing though.)

I don't agree. The penalty afterwards makes the coaches try to be that much more sure before wasting everyone's time with a questionable challenge. Losing a timeout is nothing.

I'd be curious to know the actual results, but my gut says that the success rate is higher for challenges since the delay of game consequence has been in place. (I'd also guess that there are fewer challenges, although that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the potential penalty call - could be just a higher volume of bad calls.)

I don't see a problem if each coach only has one challenge, personally. Like baseball they sit and let the coach watch video before saying he wants to challenge anyways which I think is equally dumb in the MLB. It's already delaying the game without even challenging.

So ,when the team wins a challenge against the refs, what's stopping the ref from giving a makeup call to the other team? You know how penalties by the rules take place each game and don't get called because they're just too soft from the refs perspective? The ref has plenty of opportunities to give makeup calls to the other team that won't be overturned by the actual rule for the penalty they call.

I'd love to see accurate penalties called but with the quality of ref work we've seen this season it would probably mean 5+ reviews a game and at some point the negatives outweigh the positive.

Honestly, I’d rather they do away with challenges altogether.

Just go back to the refs calling Toronto if there’s no consensus on the ice about a goal. I can barely get excited about goals in the moment anymore—everything is challenged.

The only penalty i want reviewed is puck over the glass. Instead of wasting time hddling maybe possibly getting the call right, watch video and see if the puck deflects off a stick or the glass.

It’s a nice idea in theory.

Think it would end up just like reviewing pass interference in the NFL last year. Refs won’t overturn themselves.

Hell I wouldn’t even blame them. Come review time do you want to be the guy with zero overturned calls or two dozen?

No. It's a fast game. No need to further hamper it down and waste time. Plenty of that already.

The problem are penalties that are not called by the Refs. What should we do for those?

I just want high sticking to be reviewable or at last that 4 minutes high stick can be called after the fact if they have been missed. I'm thinking of a situation like this

    Absolutely not.

If you really want to make the game about reviews, then review every call. Just do it, rip the band-aid off.

But this crap about having a mini-game for the coaches is just ridiculous. People scream "this isn't hockey" about 3-on-3, but hinging the game on a coach's decision whether to review a penalty at risk of another penalty is literally not the game of hockey. It's a guy playing a quiz show that for some reason impacts a game of hockey.

No way, and make the time-to-object to an offside 3 max seconds or so. Or change so that it must be challenged before the next whistle. Or just get rid of it.

Holy shit no. Allowing coaches challenge reviews is the worst non-lockout thing the league has done in 20 years.

I'd prefer if we reduced coaches challenges instead of expanding them.

I don't know why the offside challenge would be removed, how often does that challenge happen? Penalties being challenged would be totally different considering how brutal the officials have been this year. There would be 5+ penalty challenges a game

Naw. Their 2 min and less reviews is a pain.

Because anytime a ball goes out of bounds and two players were jockeying for position, they will review it.

I'm not saying for hockey to go to that extreme

You cant do anything about those

Teams have to know their refs. And who might secretly hate them
