We get a promise he isn't going back to Russia?

Doubt they have interest in Mrazek, they have young goalies.

Ovie's contract is bad, but realistically you should probably acquire a guy with three Hart Trophies and a top 5 player in the game.

Have to know the cap is really going up and it would be tough to swallow, but you do that package.

Scary version even with that contract, that likely isn't what Washington would be looking for or even close to what they would get. Ovie doesn't need to be traded for prospect heavy packages. Although Nyquist and Tatar can be established NHL guys if we are discussing this come trade deadline.

You would get mauled by virtually every other fan base for not accepting this trade on the main board from a Wings perspective.

Moot, because there's no cap space for him and the Caps wouldn't trade him for that anyway.

Well since he got the contract think he is second to st louis in scoring and in last four years second to stamkos in goals. So yes is a no brainer. I love three of our four prospects worry on tatar and size for 82 game seasons but we will see. Also agree washington would want more. Also the cap hit dont think it is hard to follow sammy bertuzzi and alfie off the books covers it. Think a change of scenery and detroits magic or whatever we have would revitalize him into the dominate player he once was or was close to last year 110 point years not what has had 2 of 3 of the last years.

I mean he is only 27 meaning his best years might still be ahead of him? The russia factor doubt he would have interest if played for detroit think we would compete every year till lost datsyuk and zetterberg and be one of best teams so why leave? I think malkin might be the better player but for someone to impact the wings and give us another 10 year run I take Ovie as second.

Easy yes.

Cap issues can be dealt with after the fact, you make moves to fit someone like Ovie.

After Pavel and Hank are gone, we're seriously lacking in firepower. OV is one of the best and most exciting in the game, it would take a lot more to acquire him, even if Washington is considering moving him.

For Crosby or Malkin? Sure.

For the overpaid prima donna Ovi? Nope.

No. Maybe, in a year, we could pull this off. To make it work right now we would be losing our quality young forward depth in the trade, and would then have to somehow move Sammy, Bert, Tootoo, and Quincey off the roster, and then bring in some much cheaper replacements. Our top6 would look really good, but our depth would be killed by it.

I wouldn't, I think it's terrible for the Red Wings. There's too much potential in all 4 of those players going the other way.

Personally, I think Ovechkin is a bad egg and not a guy we'd want leading the core of this franchise.

I'm not sure there's any 1 player I would do that trade for, except for MAYBE Shea Weber.

I say no because I'm really high on Mrazek and hope he stays with us and becomes a legit NHL goaltender. I like OV but I dunno I'd rather see those guys in the wings Jersey more so than him. If it was back in like 2005-2006 then sure I'd take him.

The deal is impossible given the salary cap situation we're in. Even if we assume we could get some fool to take Samuelsson off our cap for a waiver exempt bag of pucks we'd still have to shed 3.546m off our cap. That pretty much means we'd have to trade Franzen for picks/prospects, which we wouldn't get a good deal on, or use an ordinary buyout on him. In either case we'd only have 0.4m left in cap space.

In other words, seen from Detroit's eyes, this would mean the following:

In: Ovechkin
Out: Franzen, Nyquist, Tatar, Mrazek, Sproul, Samuelsson

Our lines this season would be something like this:

Abdelkader - Datsyuk - Ovechkin
Zetterberg - Weiss - Alfredsson
Bertuzzi - Helm - Eaves
Miller - Andersson - Tootoo
Emmerton

No room for a 14th forward.

I wouldn't do it. Come back when the cap has gone up and Jurco & Järnkrok may be ready for the NHL and we can talk. ;)

I predicted 70.3 million cap for 2014-15 season:

Tatar, Nyquist and Mrazek were all parts in the trade so they wouldn't be available.

Ah, okay. I thought I saw Ovechkin in there but it seems I was reading in my sleep. My bad.

And I agree.
