Would it better if conferences were scrapped in the playoffs?

So two teams from the same league and city met in the Final of the UCL earlier today. It's good to know that anyone can meet anyone in the Final. That's not the case in NA playoffs since their leagues are split in half, meaning two teams from the same conference can never meet in the championship series/game. That's too bad, IMO.

Eastern and Western Conference Finals/AFC and NFC Championship Games/ALCS and NLCS are essentially NBA/Stanley Cup/Super Bowl/World Series Semifinals and it sucks that bitter rivals like the Cards and Cubs could only go as far as the NLCS. I say keep the conferences (or "leagues" in baseball) but only for the regular season.

The argument against it would be:

NBA/NHL: Travel. One first round series is between two California teams and the winner would face the winner of the Boston-Phoenix series. Doesn't seem fair.

MLB: Tradition. Baseball still values the representation of each league.

I guess it could work in football. Imagine a Packers-Bears Super Bowl!
