My memory's a bit cloudy but IIRC, the best player on the 03 04 caps was Jeff Halpern

Also, the Flyers have Claude Giroux, Lecavelier, Hartnell, Simmonds, Schenn ect. They're pretty good on paper. It's been 7 games. Calm down

1974-75 Capitals had a record of 8-67-5 in 80 games.

They had a goal differential of -265.

Let that sink in.

Watching the game it looks like they have really low confidence. They are reacting to everything and not initiating. That's a good way to be on your heels the whole game.

there was like week ago the exact same thread about Buffalo. You should really use google and see how bad exactly have the worst teams ever been.

and the answer to your question is no.

Sadly, not even close to the 03-04 Penguins.

Sadly, not even close to the biggest overreaction in the history of this board.

Sad.

They have a long way to go if they wish to be worst ever. But they are all over the place, especially their breakouts are awful.

The Winnipeg Jets second season in the NHL back in 1980-1981, just god awful..silver lining of that year was drafting Hawerchuk first overall..Jets had success the rest of the decade

Using the same formula as in the best team in history thread (marginal goals, with adjustments for historical goals and for competitive balance), the bottom 10 teams that were not within three years of their expansion season:

1) 1943-44 NY Rangers
2) 1939-40 Montreal
3) 1940-41 NY Americans
4) 1944-45 NY Rangers
5) 1950-51 Chicago
6) 1961-62 Boston
7) 1953-54 Chicago
8) 1973-74 California
9) 1976-77 Detroit
10) 1977-78 Minnesota

Without the expansion exemption, the 1943-44 Rangers would be the 7th-worst team of all-time, and only they and 1939-40 Montreal would be in the bottom 10. 1977-78 Minnesota (10th on this list) would be 25th-worst.

Worst start in Flyers history. First time in NHL history a team has not scored 3 or more goals in any of the first 8 games.

Where did you hear that? Doing a quick check back to the 28-29 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates didn't score three or more goals in a game until their 14th game against Toronto.

A little history on the rangers 15-0 loss to Detroit in 1944...rangers played the previous night in montreal and had to travel by train to Detroit the very next night for this game, there was however an overnight snow storm and the train was delayed for hours, the rangers reached the rink in Detroit about 2 hours prior to game time with no sleep for the players, the rangers asked for a postponement or forfeit but the league said no...the game was played and the rangers who had a depleted line-up due to WW2 were too tired to play and got trounced...those WW2 seasons really do not count much in my book

The Capitals defeated:
Chicago (7-4)
California (6-4)
Toronto (3-1)
Detroit (6-3)
NY Rangers (7-4)
Kansas City (3-0)
California (5-3)
Pittsburgh (8-4)

You had to remind me. The 5-3 game was their first road win in their last road game of the season, at Oakland. Listened to that game on the Caps radio station which I picked up crystal clear here on Long Island. I was inconsolable the next day at school.

How about the 1975-76 Kansas City Scouts? After the defeated the California Golden Seals on December 28, 1975 to improve to a dreadful 11-21-4 record, the club would win 1 out of their last 44 games (1-35-8).
.

They had the fortune of playing in the shadow of the Capitals for two years. They're rarely remembered when it comes to evoking bad teams.
