The nightmare of Y2K.

On the morning of draft day 2000, the Islanders had a goaltending tandem of Roberto Luongo and Kevin Weekes. By the beginning of the draft, both are traded. And then MM drafts Rick DiPietro instead of simply drafting Marion Gaborik with the #1 overall pick and drafts Raffi Torres at #5. Now while both of these kids have turned out to be very good players, at the time, the Isles were much better off before these deals.

1) 1999 - The Islanders Personel who was to announce that the 8th overall pick was being used to select Taylor Pyatt - but instead said his dad's name (Nelson Pyatt)

That was old-timer Earl Ingarfield, you've got to give the old guy a break...he's only like 127 years old.
