Luděk Čajka's spinal injury from January 6 1990 has to count as the worst in the history of Czech hockey. He died 40 days later. This tragic incident is the reason why the IIHF has different rules regarding the icing than the NHL:

Tomáš Zelenka and especially Jaroslav Otevřel also come to my mind.
And I am asking: Is NHL waiting for someone who will die similiar way like Ludek Cajka to change the icing rule?
It was same with webs. Webs were there in europe years ago, but NHL waited until Espen Knutsen killed a little girl.

Hossa ended Bryan Berard career.
