Goalies (3): Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marty Turco

Defensemen (8): Adrian Aucoin, Rob Blake, Adam Foote, Ed Jovanovski, Bryan McCabe, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Wade Redden

Forwards (15): Shane Doan, Kris Draper, Dany Heatley, Jarome Iginla, Paul Kariya, Vincent Lecavalier, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash, Keith Primeau, Mark Recchi, Martin St. Louis, Joe Sakic, Ryan Smyth, Alex Tanguay, Joe Thornton

I didn't include Lemieux or Bertuzzi because of their status being up in the air. Draper should be there...he's the best checking center in the NHL and Canada has enough stars on their club. I originally had Yzerman on the team but he's probably not going to be ready for the tournament. I've got Primeau in his place.

I've been impressed with the play of Leopold throughout the playoffs...I'd put him on the team over Mara. The rest of my picks stay the same.

Fedorov - Mogilny
Having Fedorov and Mogilny would be nice but Mogilny usually refuses :( , and Fedorov mentioned somewhere he probably won't be going (can't remember the source). Those two just aren't too enthusiastic about international competitions for whatever reason. Of course, neither of them would ever play for Tikhonov but now that he's out of the way...

Why do want mike peca when you can have patrick marleua play center

Maybe because Pat Quinn cant exactly stick a guy like Patrick Marleau on say.....Pavel Demitra....and hope that Marleau will shut him down using top notch defesensive skills and gritty play. You cant always go for the most offensive players. You need role players, guys like Peca, Madden, and Draper on your team.

I can't see Peca making this team, there are a lot of guys that can cover guys as well as Peca ie. Draper, Primeau and they have a better offensive upside and are bigger. Peca's production has tailed off lately. I also think Marleau has a real good chance of making this team. Don't be surprised to see Brewer back and if they make the rule they are talking about where each team must have 3 guys under I think 21, Spezza will be there.

They got rid of that rule because the USA complained

I know. Fedorov said that he won't play in an Interview in Sovetsky Sport in January, but when he was interviewed by them again the next month, the reporter told him how the people had reacted to his announcement, and he replied that his decision hasn't been made yet. But he was mainly speaking about the World Champ.
As for Mogilny ... :shakehead

Nedved (who can't play for Czech R. in IIHF tournaments) will play?

Also, is it a given that Mario will play for Canada?

Draper - Primeau - Doan
Tanguay - Thornton - Heatley

Pronger - Blake
Niedermayer - Jovanovski
Foote - Redden
Reghr
Bouwmeester

Brodeur (No explanation needed)
Luongo (Grooming the next one after Brodeur)
Belfour (support, leadership, experience, good presence in the locker room)

Nedved received a special grant, which allows him to play for Czech Republic now. Represented Czech in a few Tourneys

Guys by the way I don't know if any of you remember, but last summer the IIHF changed its rule regarding players who have 2 citizenships and who want to change teams during their career.
The old rule allowed a player to change teams if he represented the old team before the age of 18. That's why Nabokov couldn't play for Russia in 2002, because he played for Kazakhstan at the WJC when he was 19.
The new rules simply allows a player to change once in his career, meaning that Nabokov can play for Russia at the World Cup but will never represent Kazakhstan again.
The same applies to Nedved I guess. He will play for the Czechs despite representing Canada at the WJC once.

Excuse me but the Czech roster will at least include Jiri Dopita, who despite his lack of success in the NHL (except that 4-goal game), is still one of the Czechs' top 5 players. :)

The World Cup is not an IIHF event therefore IIHF rules do not apply. Remember Nedved played for the Czechs at the 96 World Cup and Peter Stastny played for Canada at the 84 Canada Cup before representing Slovakia at the Lillehammer Olympics. Also the player has to play in that country's domestic league for 4 consecutive years before he is allowed to switch countries. The player must also have not played for his old country during those 4 years. You can say it is more like a residency rule and waiting period before you can switch. So Nedved can play for the Czechs at the World Cup, but not the Olympics.

Here's my Czech Team:

Havlat - Lang - Jagr
Elias - Nedved - Sykora
Straka - Bonk - Hejduk
Rucinsky - Holik - Reichel

There could be slight changes in the lines but IMO that is a very balanced lineup. The major question mark is whether Holik plays. He would be perfect on the fourth line. But if he decides not to play, he could be replaced with either Hrdina or Dopita. Also, straka could be moved to center and Holik could be replaced by other notables including:
Prospal, Vyborny, Dvorak, Hemsky, Baranek, Cajanek, Varada.

ON D

Hamrlik - T. Kaberle
Kubina - Zidlicky
Fischer - Slegr

Others: Rachunek, Modry, Kuba, Klesla, F. Kaberle, Pilar, Martinek..
