That's what Pierre McGuire seems to think anyway. He lit into Esche big time on TSN last night.

Pierre Maguire changes his mind everyday. When he sees that Esche will perform, he will say i told you so.
That being said, Canada still wins tonight but it clearly won't be Esche's fault.

Does anyone know if there's points for overtime losses? I'm not sure on that one.

I'm predicting a 2-1 victory for Canada in a really tight game. U.S. pulls their goalie near the end and really pours it on but Canada holds them off.

Canadian Goal Scorers- Jarome Iginla(PP), Simon Gagne
U.S. Goal Scorers- Brett Hull
Canadian Assists- Dany Heatley, Scott Niedermayer/Martin St. Louis
U.S. Assists- Keith Tkachuk, Mike Modano

Robert Esche- 30 Saves/32 Shots
Martin Brodeur- 26 Saves/27 Shots

Canada 4 USA 1. I think the defense of the USA will get lit up in this tourney.

By who? I know exhibitions are just that, but I think the U.S. defense has shown enough to indicate that it will keep things tight. The key IMO is not getting bogged down in the defensive zone. That's where the U.S. has trouble since it features a rather small, finesse-oriented offense. Puck movement will not be an issue.

I'm happy about that line-up. Looks like the lines will be...

Lemieux-Sakic-Iginla
Gagne-Richards-St. Louis
Smyth-Lecavalier-Heatley
Morrow-Thornton-Doan

That fourth line will be a real bang'n crash line. All four lines are obviously capable of scoring and I must say I don't have a problem with Morrow's jam on the 4th line. That line could be over-powering on the Team US defence, which will have a few pairings that are long on savvy and guile, but not the biggest or most physical units.

Either way, it's going to be a hell of a game, as Team U.S. is still an incredibly talented group. T - 60 minutes until I leave for Montreal...

Maltby Draper Marleau Jay.B Hannan the scratches for this evening

Well at least Thornton & Doan is playing. I'd rather have Draper or Marleau in instead of Morrow. Draper I would say played slightly better during the exhibition games as for Marleau, I just think he's a better player and should be in over Morrow. Neither Marleau or Morrow played real good in the exhibition games though. I don't really mind Morrow in the line-up though.

I'm a bit disappointed that Brewer is playing instead of Jay-Bo. Jay-Bo is a better player, will be a better player in the future, and has played better for Canada in the exhibition games. Jovanovski has played bad thus far but I think he should be played for this game. If he doesn't show up once again, take him out. Same with Thornton. If they don't show up, we don't want them. (This is coming from a Thornton fan as well)

Anyone know if Paul Martin will be playing. Their defense was great in the 2 - 0 win over Russia.

I was at that game and Martin was mistake free. The U.S. had a rough second period, but in the first and third the defense really controlled the play. Rafalski will play tonight and that will be a real boost. I don't know the line-up for sure, but here is who I would play:

Forwards:

Tkachuk-Modano-Hull
Rolston-Weight-Drury
Amonte-Gomez-Guerin
Konowalchuk-Conroy-Langenbrunner

Scratches: Blake, Halpern, Smolinski

Defense:

Leetch-Miller
Chelios-Martin
Weinrich-Rafalski
Klee

Scratches: Liles

Goaltending:

Esche
DiPietro

Scratches: Conklin

It really is a good line up... very experienced (minus goaltending... but it's not like Esche is bad). I think that if Canada fires on all cylinders, we should win... but this will be no cake walk.

Hey Ott,

Nice prediction, I hope it comes true! I'm in the NL also. Are you watching the games anywhere? I don't know of any place near where I live (Delft, Den Haag, Rotterdam), so I'll probably just listen online if possible.

GO FEYENOORD!!! Just kidding. :) I only watch English football.

GO CANADA!!!

To be honest, I can't either. He must be injured, stepped on some toes at USA Hockey, or was considered too similar to some of the other players on the team.

totally agree w/ you about Maguire....i enjoy his hockey knowledge but he can be a real clown sometimes...he badmouthed Esche during the whole TB series.

I'll say 3-2 Canada.

CAN: St.Louis, Heatley, Neidermayer.
USA: Leetch, Drury.

oh thats right, a goalie that LOST to the starting US goaltender in the playoffs and that was one win away from going to the stanley cup final.

So I guess its a good thing that we have St. Louis, Richards and Vinny :D
