France over Ukraine, would that be considered an upset?

i don't think so. ukraine's hockey is on a decline for years now. and france plays at home.

Italy also beat Belarus, would that also be considered an upset?

that i think is an upset. i was pretty surprised about it.

germany stopped beating up japan after 28min, not scoring the next 30min. pretty funny.

Italy beating Belarus is a major upset! Belarus traditionally plays a nice style of hockey and this is very surprising to me - maybe the spaghetties have something coming? :)

France is on home ice and Ukrainian ice hockey isn't good anymore.

Denmark beat Slovenia 3-0. Slovenia has Anze Kopitar's younger brother, Gasper, on their roster.
From what I read on the Danish Ice Hockey Federation's website, Denmark dominated throughout the game, only letting the Slovenians take control in mid-2nd period by taking too many penalties. All Danish goals were scored in the 3rd.

Germany - Japan 9-0

Japan is already on their way back to Division II.

I will keep posting on France results. But to be fair I'm a tyipical Canadian that is only following because 1 player that plays Jr A locally with the Dieppe Commandos is on the France team.
Most of you will have to find Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on a map. But I'll tell you we adopt any player that plays here as our own. :help:

Wow Japan 4-1 over France?
I really gotta brush up on my International hockey.
I think that was more of a surprise then anything
Japan was favoured to be relegated and still could be, they lost 9-0 to Germany yesterday and France beat the Ukraine.

Denmark beat Ukraine 7-3 today. Looks like the division A finals will probably be between Denmark and Germany.

Combination of weak opponents and a good defense and goalie (Philip Grubauer from the OHL's Belleville Bulls). Germany has been bouncing up and down between the real WJC and the Div-I every year since 2002 so you'd expect them to make a run for promotion again. Head coach is Ernst Höfner, assisted by former goalie Klaus Merk and senior national team coach Uwe Krupp.

I think this German class is too strong for Denmark this time. We have a lot of 93'ers. But next year there is no way we are not getting promoted.... this is a very, very talented team. One of the best generations ever...

Well, there is only one 93-born in the Danish team [1], but I guess you mean 91'ers. Other than that, I agree with you, although it is always dangerous to make such definitive statements. However, from where I sit, the 91, 92 and maybe 93 all look pretty good with both very solid depth and a few top-end prospects.

Like [1] Nicklas Jensen, the only Danish '93 player, who is 2+1 3 after the first two games. Expect him to play a role in the 2011-draft.

My bad, the point was that it is a very young team :)

There is something I never expected to see in my lifetime, 'top team' and 'Denmark' in the same sentence....

Haha I know. In the last few years though they have made great strides in their development. With the amount of guys coming out of that country and into the NHL I would think that they will be a top 7 or 8 team soon. This year alone they have had 5 guys play in the NHL, and that is amazing considering the first time a Dane played in an NHL game was in 2007.

Anyone know how Konrad Abeltshauser has looked for Germany? He's been really impressive in the limited time he's spent with Halifax this year, though all I know about him in this tournament is that at +8 in 3 games, he's certainly benefiting from the lower level of competition.
