He'll figure out what works and what doesn't. I'd hate to knock the creative out of him too early.
I don’t disagree. I think if he’s not successful it will be because of his size, but I don’t see how he doesn’t at least carve out a career as a PP Speacialist

US was way too impatient on the forecheck and it led to so many unnecessary Russian chances.

I love the way Boldy plays and was easily one of the best skaters on either team. He is so difficult to knock off the puck and was almost always in great position.

Marat played alright (I have my expectations about him as a NHLer tempered) but to be fair my focus was on the US players significantly more. Firstov I hardly noticed.

I don’t know where you put Kaliyev against top quality teams. I’m open to all suggestions because even though I rag on Caufield, Kaliyev is a whole different type of anchor.

The score flattered the US team, just like the score in the RUS/CAN game flattered the Russians. US was beaten to the puck all night, lost puck battles, and were hesitant and showed poor judgement when handling the puck. Also, 3 of 4 goals scored against the Russians so far have been from the point. At what point does it sink in, and the Dmen stop hesitating and just start shooting the puck?

Boldy is growing on me. His work in and around the net was good. Reminds me of Nino a bit when he was good. Knight...man, when I have seen him play in college he looks great. Still really like Beniers-want!

Just about all of the USA D looked pretty ordinary, if not worse than that. I guess York was the best?

Thanks for the insight. Like I said, don’t follow it super close at this point. He does look significantly better than what Raty looked like earlier today but his star has dimmed somewhat anyway I guess. Lambert looked like a fine player though but that’s the 2022 draft.
Just an FYI that the draft eligible Raty is not in the tournament this year, his older brother is on Finland, aatu was left off the roster after playing last year which is not a good sign however.

East Metro, soon to be Up North.
The Russians played better in all 3 zones and the face off circle. They are disciplined, play with structure, and play with an edge. Team USA turned the puck over many times trying to make plays that were not there. Especially at the offensive blueline. Hard to overcome to monster gaffes by your goaltender. On the first one 3 guys were puck watching when they had time to react to the wide open Russian.

Not real impressed with the coaching of team USA.

Don't blame the coaching for the players playing like crap ..... Goaltending, puck watching, etc , Your words

I'm sure that's not taught by Lehman

Now the USA get to beat up on Austria. Don't know if that is a good thing.

It's hard to say where the US is now. There's no doubt Russians had more jump in their legs. But, some of the Americans haven't played a significant game in 9 months so it's like pre-season for them. Perhaps as the tourney progresses they will find their game and legs will improve.
