With the Medvedev signing, is the Flyers defense depth at least average?

I'd say Streit is a solid #2. Guy was top 10 in D scoring this year and he's pretty good defensively.

All if the isles current d (unless you play strait in the top 6) are better defensively than streit was when he was here. Pretty poor d corps if streit plays a top pairing role. Ideally streit is a pp specialist with 3rd pairing toi at even strength.

If we had two top pairing D it would look alright...

if we are honest:

Streit: #3
Del Zotto: #4
MacDonald: #4-5
Schultz: #5
Grossmann: #5-6
Schenn: #5-6
Gudas: #6

Medvedev: I think #4- or #5 is the most likely... but could be slightly better or worse.

I just really hope all the swirling rumours about Zaitsev are true...

Macdonald is nowhere near a top. 4 d man. I would prefer not to have him in my top 6 at all if i am a contender, guy is poison to transition and loves to get hemmed in in his zone.

Everyone seems to know where we are except the OP. We're gonna be better next year, but not by much. We'll still be in the bottom third of the league for D but with the kids coming through we'll hopefully make a major, major jump over the next few years.

Let's face it, if Sanheim, Morin, Hagg, Alt and anyone drafted this year come through we will become one of the best.

It's still bottom-5 in the league. It's better than Edmonton's but no other teams are springing to mind that they're clearly better than.

Yeah, sure. Streit is a top 10 scoring defensemen, he's more than a PP specialist :shakehead

Don't really care what HF thinks of our defense. We are clearly transitioning to our young guns in Sanheim/Morin/Gostisbehere/Hagg. How many other NHL teams have a better core of defense prospects? None, that's right, and if we draft Provorov/Werenski it's going to be even better. What we have now is irrelevant compared to what will be in 2-3 years.

Just a bunch of depth guys, still bottom tier in the NHL. They got some great d-prospects though

Thats if they all pan out.

Alt is nothing special at all, don't know why Flyers fans are so convinced he's even going to have an NHL future. The rest really have showed no signs of backtracking in their development. The biggest red flag out of all our D prospects is Gostisbehere's ACL tear, which was only partial too. They all have improved significantly since they were drafted. Hagg, not as much as others, but his only problem is he isn't assertive enough out there. We think his game will translate to NHL better due to it being much more structured, he's a highly intelligent player.

Lack a #1 , #2 and even #3 in all honestly

A very costly collection of 4-7 NHL defenders

Streit is a good #3 on a lot of teams. If Del Zotto continues to play like he did last year, than he is also a good #3 on a lot of teams. Neither are top pairing though for sure.

We really need Morin, Sanheim and Ghost to come through.

According to some Buffalo fan our defense prospects aren't impressing anyone. :shakehead

Ignorance. But you're right, who cares what HF thinks, we all know where we sit now; we just need patience on the back-end.

My god that blueline is ugly. Not a single legitimate top pairing guy there.

And again, we are transitioning to our young guns on D. Don't really care who we ice as of right now, clearly in a re-tooling mode.

You seem to care quite alot looking how often you write to this thread. Also the thread was about how the Flyers defense looks right now , not 3 years from now.

Because it is hard for some people to understand that we are re-tooling apparently

Problem with this is theres no space for anyone. They'd have to get rid of at least 2 of the bunch and thats gonna be near impossible without giving assets away. Hextall has done or said nothing in his tenure to make me think thats even an option.
