Well it's the opposite of Kurtis Gabriel with an 3rd rounder.

Looks like he was generally ranked higher than we selected him (#85) which is good.

Great pick.

His numbers in the playoffs look bad but he got pushed down the lineup because of Erie's trade deadline acquisitions.

His top end speed could improve but he is very agile and elusive, good dangler and very creative. He makes zone entries look easy. He could explode offensively next season with the amount of playing time he will get in Erie.

Tiny, young and has some offensive upside. No complaints.

5'10 is undersized, but I've never called it tiny. Granlund certainly isn't tiny, he's also 5'10, as is Crosby.

Spurgeon is tiny though, he's listed as 5'9 but looks 5'8.

saw his name in the 1st round on a number of mock draft sites earlier in the year. To get him in the 3rd seems pretty good

Almost all athletes lie about their height.

Yeah, but wasn't Lodnia measured at the combine as 5'10?

Yes... looks like he was...

NHL Combine Height & Weights

Ivan Lodnia: 5-foot-10.5, 176.34 pounds

So he's OVER 5'10... definitely not tiny. Just a little undersized. Nothing wrong with that.

Considering he's a late August Birthday... he's still 17 and may still have a little growing to do. Could be 5'11+ by the time he's done.

Ivan Lodnia Stolen in Round 3

Lodnia was drafted 85th overall by the Wild at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Lodnia is shifty in the offensive zone and makes smart plays with the puck. He isn't big (5-foot-10, 180 pounds), but he plays physically and competes in his own end. There were stretches of time during the season where he didn't get a ton of ice time and the end result was Lodnia posting 24 goals and 57 points in 66 games. Given his hockey IQ, those numbers could nearly double next season when he is given more responsibility. He is one of the more underrated prospects in the entire draft.

Sounds good to me!

California Born Ivan Lodnia Could be a 2nd Round Steal

(whom we actually stole in the 3rd! :sarcasm:)

Had Erie Otters right wing Ivan Lodnia been born 15 days later, he would have been eligible to enter the 2018 NHL Draft. Lodnia, born on August 31, 1999 in Los Angeles, is instead one of the youngest players in this year’s Draft. The California native has enough upside at one of the San Jose Sharks’ major positions of need to warrant selection in the second round.

Lodnia’s role with Eerie changed following the trade deadline. He played a shutdown role down the stretch for the eventual OHL champions and Memorial Cup runners-up, after being relied upon for offense at the beginning of the season. He scored just 19 points over the season’s final 29 games, following up 38 points in the 37 games before the trade deadline.

As Lodnia told the Hockey News last month, the role was “something [he] had never really done before,” and he fleshed out his game shutting down opposing teams’ top lines. The offensive skills were not in question, as the 5-foot-10 forward has drawn praise from scouts for his offensive abilities, especially his creativity and strength on the puck. NHL Central Scouting’s Matt Ryan told NHL.com last month that Lodnia’s “ability to maneuver through traffic is fantastic,” and that his small stature doesn’t prevent him from getting to the dirty areas.
Looks like we don't have to worry about him being a PMB type of player! Good defense and gets to the high percentage areas!

Reaction to Lodnia’s skating ability is a bit mixed. ESPN’s Corey Pronman thinking it could use some work ($), while Ryan called Lodnia’s skating ability “excellent.” Last Word on Sports’ Ben Kerr concluded that Lodnia’s speed isn’t great, but the rest of his skating skills are much better:

Ivan Lodnia is not the fastest skater on the ice, but his agility and edge work still make him one of the most elusive. He may not have great top end speed, but he does have a good first step and acceleration. He makes tight turns and can change directions on a dime. Lodnia also has good lower body strength. His balance is very good.

Lodnia is undersized, but told NHL.com that he “gained about 11 pounds this year and...grew like an inch or so,” which indicates he can grow into his frame.
So yes, looks like he's still growing.

Sounds like he's been here many times before playing hockey... so he won't be shocked by the winters here.
