  • Eliteprospects.com Player Profile
    Birthyear: 1996-04-02
    Birthplace: Brno, CZE
    Age: 18
    Nation: Czech Rep.
    Position: C/F
    Shoots: L
    Height: 189 cm / 6'2"
    Weight: 87 kg / 192 lbs
Jenys has great size and willingness to use it in corner battles as well as in front of the oppositions cage. Has a good shot that is both hard and accurate. Lacks touch on his passes and can over handle the puck. Does not always bring the same high level of effort each game. (Novembver 2013)
  • InLouWeTrust Player Profile
His stats with the U20 team were what stood out most to me, as he average a goal every other game, and added 6 assists and 35 penalty minutes (for those of you who love guys that aren't afraid to get physical) in 26 games. His stats for HC Kometa were a lot less encouraging; a whopping 2 goals and 0 assists in 29 games, but it is worth noting junior players generally get less ice time when playing for the big club. His assist totals were rather low during international play as well, but his goal scoring was still respectable as he averaged a goal every third game. Jenys seems to be a scorer rather than a set-up man, and we all know the Devils could use some goal scorers in the system.
  • Hockey's Future article (August 2013)
Jenyš won five straight years before the 2011-12 season. After enjoying success with current Acadie-Bathurst Titan winger Adam Zbořil (older brother of the aforementioned Jakub Zbořil), who captained the Under-16 team in their winning campaign and collected 75 points in 25 games, Jenyš spent the majority of the following season in the Under-18 Extraliga where he had 17 points in 33 games at the age of 15.

Jenyš's impressive performance led to the organization giving the young forward a chance to compete among pros. Jenyš first wore Kometa's first-team jersey during the European Trophy, where he played in two games as a 16-year-old and collected an assist.

Besides that, he played for Brno's Under-20 team where he posted numbers similar to those he had a year before at the U18 level. Also, the Under-18 national team first called him up for duty when they traveled overseas for the World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Over there, Jenyš played in four games, but failed to register a point. Almost a year later, he's back with the Under-18 national team and doing much better.

Rated in the top 90, tumbled down the draft. Heard he takes shifts off, which is why he could have found himself taken that far down.

So it sounds like we took a few fallers in the late rounds. Can't be disappointed with that.

HP "One of those guys that the more we saw him the more he slid down our list. He's a big kid who played way too much on the perimeter, not a good combination for us. Not much offensive ability, if any at all combined with soft play in our viewings equals sliding in the rankings."

Which perfectly describes Coyle. Surprised they didn't draft him higher, then.

So, people who play well on the perimeter aren't defined as perimeter players? Because looking at shot charts from the last year I'd be willing to call almost every player on the team a perimeter player.

Just read 3 scouting reports written before Coyle was drafted. Top 3 things mentioned:

1.) Excellent offensive ability (particularly passing)

2.) Protects the puck well along the boards (perimeter player?)

3.) Needs to learn how to use his size better (getting better...)

Hockey Made Easy: Instructional Manual said:
Perimeter Player - is a negative term to describe forwards who play on the outside of the rink, not going to the net or the slot area because of the opposition's fierce aggressive checking in this area.

So going off what I said earlier about the import draft and Jenys, which is set for Wednesday the 2nd, the draft is only two rounds long. It seems Lethbridge(Reid Duke) is up near the top, Kootenay(Tanner Faith) is near the middle, and Calgary(Chase Lang) is near the end.

It would be very cool to see him playing on a team with another recently drafted prospect.

I don't think many people who have watched Coyle would list perimeter player in the scouting report. When teams/scouts use that to describe someone, it's that they stay on the outside, don't go through traffic, shy away from any physical play and are not effective at all below the tops of the circles.

Agreed. Hopefully you or someone else will remember to track it so we find out. Thanks!

So, someone who plays along the boards is not a perimeter player? I'm guessing in basketball 3 point shooters aren't perimeter players, then. Hmm...wait a minute...these are direct definitions of a perimeter player.
