Terrible. Italy already had Winter games in 2006 and it didn't go that well.
It's a country with 30+ celsius / 86+ Fahrenheit degrees in winter which means their "fake snow" will melt in seconds and the ice quality will be awful for any event involving skating (Hockey,Curling,Figure skating,Shorttrack, speed skating, etc)l probably all luge/sled events too.
IMO Stockholm-Are+Sigulda deserved to win. SMH.

8th time in a row Sweden was deemed the lesser country to host the Olympic Games in.

Probably because the budget included to actually use existing Arenas and not entirely new shiny ones to show the world how fancy the olympics is.. Which is really crazy, looking at past hosts there's so many arenas which are now deserted and what's the point with that.

With that said, I am sure Milano and Cortina will host a great Olympics, even though it would have been fun to see it hosted in the nordic countries again.

Seeing how often some of the 2006 venues are used for winter sports, this is just a ridiculous decision. When the world is pushing for a more sustainable development, IOC just shows it doesn't give a shit. Hockeywise, too, Sweden would have been of greater interest. This is yet another Korea - hardly any market, hardly any local tradition.

Feel bad for our cross country skiers in particular, would have loved it for them to fight for medals at home. However I think it's for the best to not host it. It isn't really sustainable considering the price.

Cortina is a nice skiing place. I think it will be a good place to hold the olympics. But so much for the diversity, Italy already had two winter olympics, Sweden 0.

It think Swedens way of doing things doesnt really fit a international fat cat organization like the IOC. It is what it is, I doubt there will be another olympic game in Sweden in my lifetime.

Good choice, the Alps are the spiritual home of the Winter Olympics and 20 years is already the longest break without games there.

It's probably more to do with the lack of a proper venue for all the sled events. If there was one, the Nordic countries could probably put in a shared bid. Finland will have 4 10K plus indoor arenas by 2030, easy to host all the ice events.

Northern italy with the alps is quite the winter destination. I dont like it aswell so shortly after 2006, but the location should be okay

You can't be serious. You're lecturing me by giving some random "site" with "random" weather forecast they "predict" it's gonna be there in 6.5 years? Really? I was in Milan in 2017 Mid-Feb,it was 30+ celsius. And it's actually very rare that there is snow in Milan in winter. It can happen, but the amount of snow is limited. Hockey will be played in Milan and yes in an arena, but still, hockey players will walk to arena in shorts, hoodie and some slippers, whereas if the games were in Sweden, they could wear their designed country winter gear. People will boil if they wear those big hot winter jackets in there.
Know your facts before you attack someone like that. Peace.

That's really interesting since the highest temperature ever recorded in February in Milan is 23.8°C, it sounds like your memory is failing you. It's also completely irrelevant whether it's going to snow in Milan as no snow sports events are going to take place there.

Seems it's you who has issues with facts:

Warmest temperature recorded in Milan in February 2017 was +17°C (February 24). No day had a median temperature above ten degrees. What is correct is that snow is unlikely, but it's not exactly guaranteed in Stockholm either.

Dude, you're blatantly FULL OF SHIT. YOU should get your facts! Never EVER heard of such temps in Italy in Feb, not even at the tip of Sicily.

Seeing how often some of the 2006 venues are used for winter sports, this is just a ridiculous decision. When the world is pushing for a more sustainable development, IOC just shows it doesn't give a ****. Hockeywise, too, Sweden would have been of greater interest. Another idiotic post. Hardly any local tradition?!? Hey, do you know ski and snowboard are BIG things in Italy? Do you know that Cortina is called the Pearl of the Dolomites? Do you know that every year countless of winter world class events (ski, snowboard, cross country ski, biathlon) are held in Italy?
Some people is reacting like the Winter Olympics will be held in Nigeria, for Christ' sake. Is it ignorance or what?
