If they play the Flyers in the Classic again this soon I'll be sorely disappointed.

It feels like the same teams over and over again. Should be a good match-up, nonetheless.

It's all about ratings. NHL really doesn't care whether teams like Anaheim or Colorado or Dallas have ever played in a Winter Classic. Whatever gets the NHL ratings is who they are gonna go for.

Didn't think it would be our turn to host so soon.

One thing I really like about this is it gives hockey really good strangle hold of the state of Pennsylvania, it's only a matter of time before hockey becomes a lifestyle over there.

this is supposed to grow the game in the US. the NHL acting like the northeast is the only hockey market in the US isn't going to do much good. It should be in the west. Colorado-Wild in St Paul.

Rangers are due to host it.....Yankee Stadium would be my guess. Next year it would make sense if the Wild hosted it, from what I've heard, they have an ideal site on their university campus, in a fairly new facility TCF Bank Stadium, that stadium is just outstanding for college football and I'm sure it would be great for hockey as well.

I still think its gonna be the following possibilites:

Rangers/Devils
Rangers/Isles

Rangers/Bruins
Rangers/Flyers
Kings/Wild

They will never have two teams in the same market compete against each other. They want two different markets to boost their ratings, instead of having one major area watching, instead of two.

If they cared about growing the game more than they cared about it's ratings, it wouldn't be on NBC, it would be on Versus.

IMO it's still too early for the Rangers. That's the team you bring in as a shot in the arm during a down year. The WC still has enough novelty to sell itself, so using up the marquee teams now is short-sighted.

Not to mention the Rangers might well be outside the playoff bracket...

Flyers fan here

they really screwed this up with last year- if you wanted to do repeats a pens/flyers in happy valley would have been amazing. who cares if you cant sell alchohol the place would still be filled and would look amazing to a tv audience

that being said i wish they had looked for some more creative alternatives- like maybe franklin field in philly with its history

also not sure how i feel about having it at cbp over the linc- both wc the flyers will play in will be in small baseball stadiums- does not make it easy to get tickets- compare that to pens fans who had 2 games in 2 football stadiums. of course i also hate the linc and love cbp in general (not a sports thing but a design thing)

:handclap:

this right here. Plus, it isn't the NHL driving this boat, it's NBC. They are the ones who created the Winter Classic.

What are you talking about? You were just in this thing 3 years ago!

Buffalo vs Pittsburgh at Buffalo
Chicago vs Detroit at Chicago
Boston vs Philly at Boston
Pittsburgh vs Washington at Pittsburgh
Philadelphia vs New York at Philadelphia

what's wrong with that picture?

Yeah, Yankee Stadium is pretty much out. We all know CitiField isn't an option and I have a feeling the Devils would be very against a game in the Meadowlands

I'm sure if the Devils were in the game, they'd be all for it, but the bigger issue is how complicated planning an event there would be. They'd have to deal with scheduling conflicts with not one but two NFL teams. That'd just be a nightmare of logistical problems.

Truth be told, I'm mostly expecting the NHL to focus on MLB fields and college football stadiums for future Winter Classics, as there is no scheduling conflict whatsoever as opposed to NFL stadiums.

Other than a major lack of Western Conference participants, the emphasis has been on Eastern Conference (and Original 6) teams.

Colorado? Minnesota? Why aren't they even considered for hosting? Could it be that the powers that be believe that they'll get better ratings with teams from the Eastern Conference?

Why not try to put together a GREAT matchup of two "good" (as in how they play the game) hockey teams?

For instance. Sharks-Wings. I must have read about three dozen comments **from around the league** about how this playoff series that just wrapped up was the BEST they have EVER seen. That's a lot of hockey these folks have watched to declare that series at the top of their list.
