Was reading about that Nor-Easter that plowed through that side of the continent. Have to imagine that was a factor.

The off season events around Buff and two of their other top Dmen leaving, and the Laine holdout hasn’t helped either.

Still the arena was 96% full. That’s a great turnout and if they get their D-Corp sorted out they’ll be packed in again for many more games.

The Charlotte Hornets sold out their first 330-ish games as well, it was all downhill from there.

For real though thats impressive.

Bigger concern...

The same night the Jets didn't sell out, there were 5 games in Canada... Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg, Toronto, Calgary... Only Toronto was considered a sellout. Ticket prices are just becoming too high for the average fan.

Why didn't they just give away tickets to keep the streak going? Melnyk gives away thousands of tickets to each Sens game.

Can't speak to the other markets, but Toronto is ridiculous.

Saw the Sabres-Habs game last week in Buffalo. 2 tickets 18 rows up, directly behind the net, were $90 US each. I looked at equivalent seats for the upcoming San Jose at Toronto game ... $370 Canadian each. That converts to about $282 US, or more than triple the price in Buffalo.

Like I said. Ridiculous. No wonder the QEW is packed before and after Leafs-at-Sabres games.

A lot of factors at play here.

Fans today have more options than ever to buy tickets on the secondary market and if the price is cheaper fans will buy there instead of at the box office of the team. Montreal is a prime example of this.

In Alberta, the economy is not great right now.

Since the NHL is a gate driven league, ticket prices in Canada will be adjusted to really represent US dollars so today a seat worth $100 in the US will be $131 in Canada.

Bettman said in order for Winnipeg to work the building needs to be sold out every game.
