Their fans travel well in certain American markets,

Other than within a few hours’ drive of the city, “travel well” is a sort of euphemism for having a bunch of local Boston transplants. People who often don’t support the local team but show up once a year for the nostalgia bait. It’s not like these people are hopping 1500-mile flights to follow the team around.

How many Boston transplants do you think are in Winnipeg?

97% of 15,000 is close to the nuch maligned Thrashers Attendance

Given WPG dearth of cultural and entertainment options, they should be selling out a 25,000 person arena every game….
While I think Atlanta's attendance issues can be overstated at times, This is only the 2nd season the Jets have had below 15k fans, and they are still up 1,300 fans per game over last season. By comparison the Thrashers averaged below 15k fans in 5 of their 11 seasons. Right now Winnipeg is averaging below 15k for only the 2nd time in their 12 seasons, 11 if you remove the bubble season since no one attended games.

Most teams who saw major dips in attendance last season (which was like half the teams in the league) are seeing increases this year. Very few are going from low attendance to sell-outs year over year if that's what you're expecting.

So 400 or so more fans is good, but 400 less is really really really bad??? Who on earth thought Boston is some draw? "oh cool they have lots of wins, I have to go see them!"

That happens everywhere, here in Ottawa Leafs games and Hans games tend to be sellouts because of the both the distance to Ottawa from both cities but also the transplants as the is a federal government town so lots of people come here for their jobs on assignments for a few years with their federal department before going back home.

Anecdotal and I can only speak for Leafs fans, but a lot of Leafs fans do travel far to away games. I've been 11 away games that weren't Buffalo, Ottawa or Montreal and a lot of folks do fly/drive far distances for the games.

Ohh for sure, I regularly see Habs or Sens travel groups where they rent a bus and the package included a coach bus ride to whatever city and tickets to the game and depending on the distance a night at a hotel. So people do it for sure. the furthest from here that I have seen a game was Florida.

Hmmm... somewhat shocking and/or disappointing. 14,544 of 15,004.

Sure, we all know they've had few sellouts this year in their small 15,004 seat arena, but it's a Thursday night, not a Monday or Tuesday. The crowd would have been ever lower, right?

And Boston only comes in once a year, not two.

And the Jets have boasted a good record all year.

And, this so-called (by some?) attendance "issue" is not new there; didn't the sellout streak get broken a year or so before the pandemic?

Their previous two weeknight games drew 13,000 (Sharks) then 13,100 (rival Wild).

Certainly, there must be concern there if they hit a five or ten year skid with few or no playoff appearances?

(Calgary couldn't sell out against Boston last month (weeknight). 17,000+ of 19,000+.

...
For comparison:

Rangers fell just short of a weeknight sellout this week against Ovechkin...sold out tonight, Thursday, against Crosby.

Oh, Florida sold out tonight (17,000) against Montreal, two previous games drew 15,000 and 16,000. Too bad they'll lose momentum and fans next year if they miss the playoffs this year.

Oh, Devils still can't sell out regularly. Tampa Tuesday and Thursday this week had 15,800 or so Tuesday and 16,300 or so tonight, Thursday, of 16,500. I think Sunday against Carolina sold out. Lots of home games crammed together.

Ottawa sold out tonight against Colorado. Much better crowds this year!

San Jose drew 10,000 the other night after a Saturday sellout. They've had a few sellouts this year, but many 10,000 to 13,000 crowds. Basically a non-traditional expansion market now (?) after always great attendance until 2017 or so; that was the year they couldn't sell out first-round playoff games after weak regular-season attendance on way to the Final.
Are you a Bruin's fan? I don;t believe I have seen you on the Bs board.

Who cares if the arena sold out?

Terrible take.

That's probably also driven by the fact you can almost never get a ticket in Toronto or have to take out a reverse mortgage to do so (can end up cheaper to travel for the love of God...LOL).

Sure is weird that people care about attendance of another franchise, especially when there's very valid economical and logistical reasons for it......... Unless it's a southern market, then we bitch for 9 pages about relocating all the southern teams to Canada. Reasonable.
