Getting a Walker + Matthew's would make the offense much more dangerous. Would love to see that.

I wanted Carter but it sounds like he is joining the powerhouse Lions. But any deep threat is just going to be wasted here as long as Nichols is throwing the ball.

Bah. Calgary is still the class of the league and with BC loading up and us regressing we are in trouble. Last year may have been our best chance, but as long as Calgary has BLM they’ll be very tough. Hell, after he leaves they’ll be tough. They’re the Patriots of the CFL.

We need to win now before Bighill and Harris leave/regress. This was not a good FA for us. Losing the talented imports kind of sucks, but Americans are dime a dozen. What really hurts is we went from having the best National depth in the league to probably around the bottom.

Sign a good receiver, sign Ackie, and bring in some more Canadians.

Thankfully, Deadmonton and Suckskatchewan should be bad enough that we still make the playoffs.

Calgary has regressed big time this offseason. They've lost a number of their key players to other teams in free agency. And Calgary is paying their QB $700k, where we are only paying our $450k. That's $250k we have to spend elsewhere on the roster. I see the West as a race between Winnipeg and BC this season for top spot. We will once again see a crossover this year with the Riders missing the playoffs (hahahah!!).

What's your excuse?
IMO people are focussing on the complete wrong things.

3 Things matter in the CFL:

1: QB
2: O-Line
3: Canadian Talent

Everyone knows that the Bombers are - I'll be nice and say - not a upper echelon QB team. BUT they had an elite O-Line and Canadian content last year.

The Bombers are going to take a hit on our O-Line and Canadian Talent. Not too optimistic about them this year.

They had a very narrow window to implement a great power run offense with Streveller, Harris and an elite O-Line, but that might be over.

BC turned over 2/3 of it's roster. They are basically an expansion team. Hard to say how that will work out.

CFL free agency is not worth over-reacting to on either end of the spectrum (teams that signed a bunch and teams that signed a few). The last real power shift due to CFL free agency happened almost 15 years ago when Calgary signed Burris and Jermaine Copeland. I suppose you could make an argument for the Bombers signing Harris being up there too. Bombers national depth is still among the best, they've been building to lose Goossen and Chungh as nobody thought they'd even sign a 2nd contract here, and they have been hoarding draft picks. BC doesn't have any, that's why they need to pay someone like Chungh 50-75k over what he's worth.

This is a bit glib, but how many years did Chungh spend in the NFL? The options to replace him spent a combined 4 years with NFL teams. They aren't useless boobs.

Couture is ready to take over at centre and that's never a position you worry too much about. You need a guy who can snap and think as the blocking responsibilities are minimal, Goossen was good but not great if he got isolated 1 on 1 we were screwed. That's pretty much any centre. Won't be a huge drop there.

There's also still a ton of off-season to come. The Bombers are fortunate to have a lot of veteran Canadian role players as well as a group of draft picks from the past couple drafts just coming into their prime. They also have 4 picks in the first 23 including 4th and 5th overall. It's a pretty deep draft (as most have been lately), the trick will be getting top level players but avoiding the NFL trap with those first rounders.

Yeah, my post is probably overly pessimistic. Maybe the years of ineptitude have made me overly cynical.

Gross signing of a dirtbag player, hopefully he doesn't make it through camp.

Still annoyed that the quirky rules let him play in the Grey cup game.

LoL not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing that we know nothing about this guy haha

WINNIPEG, MB., February 13, 2019 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms with international defensive back Winston Rose on a one-year contract.
Rose (6-0, 174, New Mexico State; November 29, 1993 in Inglewood, CA) will be entering his third season in the Canadian Football League. In 2017, he played four games with the Ottawa REDBLACKS and dressed for all 18 regular season games last season with the B.C. Lions, starting 15 at cornerback. Rose also started at cornerback for the Lions in the East Division Semi-Final.
Rose finished the 2018 season with 32 defensive tackles, adding eight more on special teams, and tied for the team lead with five interceptions. He chipped in with four pass knock-downs and two tackles for a loss.
Rose first came to the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts in 2016 and spent two months on their practice roster after stints in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts. He began his college career at Los Angeles Valley College before transferring to New Mexico State in 2013. He appeared in 23 games over three seasons with the Lobos, recording 94 total tackles, five interceptions, two tackles for a loss, eight pass knock-downs and a forced fumble.

I'm guessing he is a Fogg replacement. Less tackles (might be a good thing, not getting beat) and 1 more interception than Fogg.
Wait and see I guess.

It's still early in FA but I think it's quite clear it looks like the top 4 teams in the CFL will be Winnipeg, BC, Calgary and Edmonton. In what order you can pick and choose but the West is gonna be a dogfight.

I really hope Streveler steals the job away from Nichols this season , in the CFL unless you have a great arm , you have to be able to scramble a little and Nichols doesn't have either talent .
