Well he went off the board. Hfers thought he was a 20th pick at best they pick him 16 spots higer then he should and they didnt pick players they were high on so he's a loser.

If he turns out being a great PP specialist they'll say Lombardi is a god if not they'll say he should get fired. It's always been like that and it wont change anytime soon.

Oh well, ****, Hfers say he's a 20th pick at best. That just seals the deal right there. This place is the be all, end all of prospects.

Hawks are always winners. I don't know if they even have a scouting staff, or they just grab guys off the NHL CS listings.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Everyone always said how good their drafts are, because they just seem to go from the lists already provided.

Rangers got a top 5 overall potential draft pick at number 17 :handclap: and Hawks and Avs won in my mind as well as the Sharks.

The Habs were prepared to trade up in order to guarantee getting McDonaugh. They couldn't get the deal done, but still ended up getting the player they wanted anyways. They never envisioned he would still be available at the 12 spot. That's called a win in my books.

how can people label monteal as loser ...:shakehead:biglaugh:
they had the best draft i've ever seen since timmins is here except maybe 2005 where we got price,latendresse,kostitsyn,dagostini,etc...

McDonagh(one of the highest rated defenseman and for lots of people the #1 defenseman from this draft. He should become a top 4 defenseman for the habs within 3/4 years)

Pacioretty (Probably the best power forward prospect from the USHL and a pretty good skater to boot compared to Tkachuk and Cole)

PK Suban (very underrated player .. he was amazing in the OHL maybe a little reach but clearly not a outrage)

Olivier Fortier (the best LHJMQ prospect IMO he's the next big thing and I wanted him so bad with the habs. He's compared to Vermette,Lombardi)

Yannick Weber: (another underrated defenseman for the OHL, he has no real weakness)

Joe Stejskal: (probably the best hitter in the draft and a pretty good overall defenseman)

Andrew Conboy: (another power forward prospect with good upside)

Nichlas Torp: (heavy hitter defenseman with good european experience in sweden)

Scott Kishel: no idea who he is.. but he was a 7th rounder ...

Add the Canucks to the loser category

2nd round pick: Taylor Ellington- Doesn't have much upside, but a decent player. If they went for a defencmen with 1 of their first two picks, why not take Petrecki with the 25th pick and hope that Pat White falls to the 33. This team confuses me.

5th round Pick: Charles-Antoine Messier- Might have some offensive upside and a center. However, he's small and ridiculously underweight. 165 lbs and sometimes those are generous.

5th round pick: Ilja Kablukov- Where to start with this one. Scouting report says he has minimal offensive upside and didn't produce anywhere this season, but has good speed. This guy screams dud and the Canucks pass up on a guy like Zach Torquato.

6th round pick: Taylor Matson- Decent pick. Seems to have some offensive upside. Once again, they pass on a much better player in Torquato. And he goes a couple picks later to Detriot. Go figure.

7th round pick: Dan Gendur- A WHL over-aged player who has little upside at all. The Canucks could have just signed this guy because its obvious he wasn't going to be drafted. Why did they pass on Brent Regner? A solid kid who plays for the Vancouver Giants and played well in the Memorial Cup. This scouting staff has a lot of explaining to do.

Here's what I would have done with our picks:

First Round (25th)- Nick Petrecki
Second Round (33rd)- Dana Tyrell
Fifth Round: (145th)- Dustin Jeffrey
Fifth Round: (146th)- Zach Torquato
Sixth Round: (176th)- Eric Doyle
Seventh Round: (206th)- Brent Regner

I'm a Habs fan, and I thought the Habs did well in getting some guys they wanted.

Aside from the Habs, I thought St-Louis, Colorado, and Detroit did pretty well - and Pheonix to get Turris the best player at 3 must have been quite satisfying.

And I think the Maple Leafs are losers, but that might not be because of their draft... (haha!)

I thought all teams did well except for Toronto...

hehehehehehe

first reaction as I was watching the draft

I thought SJ did well for themselves considering they started the day with no 1st round picks

I like some of the things Pitts did.

Edmonton seemed to be drafting forever

Phi restocked the cupboards nicely.

I won't comment on the Habs as I'm a fan.

We must have all had Cherepanov and Esposito to high. Because 16 teams said "no thanks" to Cherepnaov and 19 teams said "no thanks" to Esposito. Can't call the teams that passed on them "losers" when there were so many.

Meh. I'll take the opinions of a team of trained scouts than a 15 year old's on hfboards.com that probably never saw White/Tyrell/Jeffrey/Torquato play.

Chicago seems to have done pretty good..Kane, Sweatt, Aliu, Tanguay etc..

Chicago's prospect depth is insane.

Hopefully, for their sake, they can eventually translate it into some success.

I think Pit did good... adding Esposito/Veilleux/Grant this team has SOOOOO much potential the drafting of Esposito scares me..

Who cares if people think the Habs are losers this draft? It was the same in 2005 for reaching for some no-name goalie when the phenom Brule was available.

We can label teams as winners if we like their picks today all we want. But how can we say they're losers? Too soon!! Besides I think the best way to know a player's value on draft day is the draft itself and not some nerd's mock draft.

And how can some say Edmonton is a loser with this draft? They picked Sam Gagner who is one of the best offensive player available this year! There is a strong strong chance he'll make it to the nhl!

They ****ing trade UP to get Riley Nash, you do that in any draft, you're automatically a loser on the weekend.

Gagner was a great pick, but the train came off the track after that.

I'd say the Leafs lost somewhat but the players they picked later seemed to have decent upside.

Why do YOU think YOU have a better read on the situation than the guys sitting on the draft floor?
If Kevin Lowe traded up to get Riley Nash.. its probably because he thought he had to. You ever think that maybe someone else had him high too?

NHL draft lists do NOT look like central scoutings lists... or hfboard mock drafts.

I swear.. the same crap every year.

2 years ago the oilers had TJ Oshie high on their lists.. and probably thought they were gonna get him. The Blues surprised everyone and picked him just before the Oilers. Would the Oilers have been stupid to trade up so they could secure the player they liked? Ofcourse not.

For all of you "LA are losers" bashers, you need to look at the big picture. They had an overall good draft. Was Hickey picked early... maybe in our eyes but a quote for Lombardi today:

Lombardi: I found out for sure that he wasn't getting by eight,'' Lombardi said, referring to the eighth overall pick, which was held by the Boston Bruins. ``That's why I knew we couldn't drop down too far.''

He knew who he wanted and knew he couldnt go down any further. Anyone who say the interview with Deano during the draft know he looked frustrated as he tried to move down. he knew he couldnt move past 8. Do I think the kings draft was as good as last year, no. I dont think they qualify as the worst draft in the league like many of you are saying.
