Looks horrible. Mantha should be with Larkin. If they like to jumpstart AA they should move BERT to second line.

If you play well you play more, Helm has played more. Svech should get some decent minutes with that line. I like the idea of challenging Mantha to drive his own line.

    I'd rather have
    Hirose Larkin Mantha
    Bert Filppula AA
    Helm Nielsen Svechnikov

if it aint broke, don't fix it. Leave the BLM line intact and give AA some teammates like Svech/Hirose/Flip imo.

We can always go back to it. Their chemistry won't dissapear overnight. In the end you need more than one line going.

I agree, I would just rather experiment with the other lines first before we have to break up BLM.

The average NHL forward is a bottom six forward.

In a perfect world I absolutely agree with you. There is a reason, however, that this team is where it is at the moment (and is likely to stay for the foreseeable future). We do not have much offensive depth at the forward position. This is an issue throughout the organization. There is no quick fix to this issue either. The very best you can hope for is Zadina, Ras and Veleno taking some massive developmental steps as the season progresses. Productive, top-six forwards don't just fall from the sky.

If there were quick, easy solutions to our problems, they would have already been fixed. Buckle up, the rebuild is going to be a very long ride.

Happy to see Smith up, not sure I'm game for gimping the first line but it should encourage Larkin to shoot more.

I thought we were signing Stamkos?

I think it makes sense to split up Larkin and Martha and hope both can drive a line relatively successfully.

Those PP lines tho... idk about those

I agree, was just an observation at this point. Tho it will be difficult to be worse than Kenny at pro scouting/building a pro roster.

First of all I believe helm, LGD and DLR have more goals then the entire team combined not including mantha and bert.

But yes I agree with what you're saying in that we have enough bottom 3/6 players. I like smith and he is better then what he we have on the bottom, but I still wanna see some more scoring from my 2nd and 3rd line.

Side note, aa fil and svech had some good opportunities against ottawa. Blash better keep that 2nd line together for a few games

I don't disagree, but to clarify, where you're talking top6/bottom6, I'm talking more top9/bottom3. Nobody needs 2 "shutdown" lines. Your third line should be able to score.

Yeah I think Smith and Svech stick with the team. They make mistakes but you see them laying it all out there every game could inspire the players and coaches love that

I think that Svech, Smith and Ras might all have a place in the NHL one day.
But those are three slow dudes. who probably shouldn't touch the puck outside the Ozone blueline at the moment.

Might be short lived. Probably only here until Abdelkader/Erne is healthy unless he forces SY’s hand.

Mantha is on PP#2??? What???? Our most dangerous goal scorer, and most productive player this season is on PP #2?

Alright Blashill, the door is over there, get out.

Helm on the first line is insane, but Mantha on PP#2 is absolute nonsense. Looks like Blashill wants out as much as most fans want him gone. I hope we keep losing until he's gone. It's madness. Hirose is on PP#1 lol....Hirose should be in the minors, he is uselss and a non-factor out there.

We are having trouble scoring, and our PP sucks. Blashill logic: Put Mantha on the 2nd line, and put him on the 2nd PP unit!

    I don't get this coach.
Svechnikov is what? 1 1/2 years older than Smith? A first round pick.
    Looked good last game.
Has the size, strength and hands to be a netfront guy.
You call up Smith, with eight professional goals to his name, and he immediately gets powerplay time instead of Svechnikov?
    What's the thinking there?

I think the BLM line had to get separated.
The team needs to jumpstart secondary scoring.
    I was thinking
    Bert-Flip-Mantha
    AA-Larkin-Svech

    but this works too.
Would rather have Svech than Helm on line one though.

Others have suggested Svech is on an IT limit. They might just prioritize him playing more ES minutes over PP minutes. As he builds up his confidence in his knee, and his IT increases, then maybe start filtering him into special teams play.

Smith has been really good this year in the preseason and now in Grand Rapids, including producing offense. I think Smiths style of offence is more bull in china shop crash the net and stir **** up which the wings need more of because the "skilled" offence isnt coming from guys like Hirose, Filppula or Neilson. Throw a guy out there that wont be stopped infront of the net and maybe some offense comes from that.

Me too but that seems like the logical first move once the lines go into a blender. Svech has looked good but not sure hes gonna look the same against NHL top defenders just yet. Let him build some confidence and keep his play going the way its going.

Smith is a good net front guy and plays that role in the AHL. He was also doing it in the preseason and did a really good job. Svech is a half wall guy, doesnt play the net front role. Svech should be taking the spot of a guy like Hirose realistically.

'Net Front' is so overrated. Unless you have a supremely skilled hand-eye player a la Holmstrom back in the day all you are looking for is a body to stand in front of the goalie and not get shoved away easily. Having said that the player filling that role should have some kind of scoring touch. Doesn't have to be the biggest boy on the team. Just get in the goalies way and deflect the puck. We'll see if Smith can do that I guess.

Svech has the kind of shot and ability to play through contact that I would like to see him as the bumper on the 2nd unit playing behind Larkin. Either that, or for the time being (when we only have one LH trigger man in Mantha) use him on the second unit on the faceoff dot on the right half wall.
