Khan said that Holland really wants Ilya Kovalchuk and offered him 2 years at high salary so one can assume that maybe he's offering him somewhere close to $6.5 million or $7 million per i would imagine.

This will always be an attractive team to play for, even when they aren't winning.

Good players don't want to go play for losers. We can attract mediocre free agents by badly over-signing them (i.e. Nielsen), while good players don't even want to hear our pitch (Stamkos). Kovalchuk has no interest in this team if they offer the same dollars/term that any sane team offers him.
