Great option. But like the article said, it's definitely more likely he will get bought out next season rather than this one. (Malone)

I doubt they really go through with, and I also doubt if he ever does have this happen that he signs anywhere but Montreal.

Would be very interested. He will still cost a pretty penny on his next contract though.

As others have said, he likely won't be bought out and would probably become a Hab in the instance that he did. Vinny's injury history and regression as a result of his injury history would trouble me, but I'd gladly take him on a shorter term and a smaller contract. However, I imagine other teams would throw a lot of money at VL4

Oh baby. Holland please make that happen.

Z, Datsyuk, FA/Brunner/Abs
Nyquist, Lecavalier, Franzen
Tatar, Helm, Abs/Brunner?FA
Miller, Andersson, Eaves

Sammy, Fil, Bert, Tootoo and Emmerton gone. Call up Sheahan, Ferraro or Jarnkrok for 4th line center if Helm or others are hurt. Also have flexibility with Z, Datsyuk, Lecavalier, Andersson, Helm and GR guys for Centering possiblities and line changes.

That is a much improved team over last year and looks great.

Forget Filppula & Weiss. The Wings should make a push for Lecavalier.

Montreal is probably going to offer him a lot though.

I'd love to sign him.

He's on the decline for sure, but he's still good for 20+ goals and 60 points and given he wouldn't be our 1C, the reduced pressure might just be what he needs.

omg i can't believe this happened this season. I could care less for any of the other free agents out there, and I don't care about the past players Holland wasn't able to lure in here. I friggin love Vinny and if Holland can get him I will be ecstatic. If you're thinking of throwing 4 to 5 million at Weiss on a 4 or 5 year deal. Why not put that to Vinny who Babcock would love, hey he is 6 foot 4 220 lbs all the time lol

Lecavalier's last four years :

82 GP - 24G+46A=70pts
65 GP - 25G+29A=54pts
64 GP - 22G+27A=49pts
39 GP - 10G+22A=32pts

62 games played on average, 51 pts average (even with the shortened season) for .82 PPG
Likely seeking 4-5M at 33 years old

Weiss' last four years

80 GP - 28G+32A=60pts
76 GP - 21G+28A=49pts
80 GP - 20G+37A=57pts
17 GP - 1G+3A=4pts

64 games played on average, 43 pts average (even with the shortened season) for .67 PPG
Likely seeking 5M+ at 30 years old.

They're both comparable, with Lecavalier being more a point getter and Weiss being sound defensively. Weiss was 53 % on Faceoffs (11-12 season) and 47.8 %, with Weiss taking 200 + more faceoffs.

Lecavalier is rumoured to be going to Montreal, so I don't think the Wings have any chance.

Montreal will definitely push hard as they have wanted him for a long time and the french factor, in a perfect scenario Lecavalier would prefer to be out of the spotlight. Being 2nd line center in Detroit could definitely be that for him, Holland just needs to convince him of that and offer him a fair contract. Hopefully Lecav doesn't want to be under constant media attention in Montreal oh please lol

Detroit is going to have to overpay ($5.5MM, more years than anyone else) to wrangle him away from Montreal.

Better player than Weiss, also 3 years older, and will cost more for Detroit to acquire.

Don't see Holland making this happen. He will offer him $4.5MM and 4 years, which won't get it done.

huh? Tampa Bay has Stamkos....

in any case he's a good player and i'd be happy if the Wings got him but it seems unlikely

Constant media attention and massive expectations. Unless Montreal offers up crazy amounts of money, I'd be somewhat surprised to see Lecavalier end up there.
