This has kenny written all over it.

I really wouldn't mind if the term is short.

Dump Quincey trade Kindl for a pick and promote a D from the AHL.

#RedWings have reached out to a number of players agents today. Strong interest in D Dan Boyle.

Not sure how I feel about this. I like Boyle but boy... Does he have legs left anymore?

Yeah I could see Dan Boyle being Ken Hollands kind of signing, 2 years 11 million would be perfect until the kids are ready Sproul, Marchenko, Ouellet.

Why is he so obsessed with old players? What about Sproul or Marchenko as the d righted d man he covets so much?

Marchenko could still very well make his way into the lineup and Sproul by all accounts isn't ready defensively for the NHL?

Why are people so obsessed with young players they know little about?

Sproul is not close to ready yet, Marchenko will be up next year for sure, if they sign him it doesn't hurt the team at all. We had literally no one that could move the puck up the ice in the playoffs, Boyle will help us with that.

We will also be losing Quincey this off season, and possibly trading Kindl / waiving Lashoff.

Boyle has proven to be capable of scoring 35 + points while being reliable within his own zone at the nhl level.

Ryan Sproul hasn't even proven he is capable of scoring 35 in the AHL and certainly hasnt proven to be reliable in his own zone even in the AHL.

Why are people so obsessed with using unproven AHL players over proven NHL players?

Holland will resign Cleary and Alfredsson, sign Boyle in FA and call it a offseason

He will go on about how much "depth" the organization has with these signings and stuff all the young talent to the minors

He is to conservative as a GM to do anything creative that would help move this team forward, leading to another disappointing offseason

By the time we sign our RFA and sign both Alfredsson and Boyle. I seriously doubt that we will have much more money to sign Cleary unless we sign him to a 2-way deal. Boyle could get between $5.5M-$6.0M on a 2 year deal and Alfredsson might command close to $4.5M on a 1 year deal.

If we get alfie/Iggy under contract, replace Quincey with Boyle and dump Lash/Kindl in favor of Ouellet/Marchenko, I will be quite pleased - Cleary or no Cleary.

Proven veterans will make those kids better on long run. Without proven veterans, kids will be thrown on to wolves and they could learn bad habits, just what is happening at Edmonton in their current rebuilding "dynasty".

Time to understand this Red Wings bread and butter development plan to everyone in here. It just works with low picks and raw projects.

Never underestimate the experience and you learn from the best. This works everywhere in real life, not just in hockey. This is how you manage people in best possible way. Veterans will mentor those kids and when a kid develops enough and becomes a better player, he takes the torch and pushes the vet on retirement. Competition and developmental environment in same package.

Those vets could be lesser short-term as on-ice players, but in big picture, the growth whay you will get from your kids because of the impact of those veterans, will pay out the loss in long run.

see the premise is correct the workings however are wrong

the idea that if we sign boyle he will prevent us from becoming the edmonton oilers is as flawed as saying the edmonton oilers are a dan boyle away from being the detroit red wings

detroits system has been based on letting the kids learn from the GREAT detroit red wings whether it be yzerman, shanahan, federov, lidstrom, datsyuk or zetterberg and not the jamie macouns and mike modanos

i absolutely agree witht he notion of not rushing immature, skinny and not ready prospects into big important roles without any role models but lets face it, dan boyle is not gonna teach the kids anything that they wouldnt learn from kronwall, datsyuk, zetterberg or alffie

All I can say is my brother is a season ticket holder for the Sharks and we should be very concerned.

Boyle is an interesting stop gap and their are parts to still like about his game. But if it continues to decline at this rate it has over the last year we could really be in for a rough time. Plus I think someone will offer him 3 years... That would be really bad but Markov just won demanding that so if term is important Boyle could very well get it, especially if the market starts to thin.

Trying to be an optimist look how terrible Stuart started playing as soon as he joined the Sharks. He was definitely on the decline when he left, but was not half as bad for us as he was for San Jose the last two seasons. Maybe the Sharks system as of the last 2-3 years does not really cater to defensemen and Boyle would excel more in the Wings system?

Doesn't explain Braun and Vlasic looking like studs. They have decided to put defensive train wreck Burns back there just to get more offensive punch and movement because it was better than re-upping Dan Boyle.

You have to hope the concussion was some of what was at fault though he didn't look that great before it in all honesty. Also maybe his pride kicks in and he has a big summer that carries him back to a better level. But Dan Boyle was not near the player he once was just in the way we discussed Stuart, so buyer beware.

Lets put it this way Alfie's game has remained steadier even with age and people seem worried about him.

yeah, signing Boyle alone doesn't mean there won't be any other changes to the club. The guy fills an immediate need, while providing room to make other and/or future moves.

Yup Boyle would replace Quincey and I still have a gut feeling that Kindl could be traded at the draft for a pick. And then one of either Marchenko and or Ouellet would replace Kindl sounds like a win win situation to me.
