Most of us non-Wings fans though are kind of loving it. Sorry Kenny Holland, but it's gonna be a bit before you're good again.

Red Wings won't 'sit back' in attempt to rebuild

Everyone saw a fall coming starting in like 2011 or 2012 as their top guys were reaching the end. It sucks, but they should go full rebuild via the draft. Might take 3-4 years but it's better than half assing it for 10 and never getting it right.

Praying Holland sees the team’s long term direction and doesn’t do something stupid like trade our 1st for an over the hill top 6 forward.

You cry about "leaf haters" more than anyone

But if i'm a wings fan, I embrace the tank.

You'd be crazy not to. You can't fight it and it's all about the competitive life cycle in this league, you have your peaks and you have your valleys. Right now the Wings need to sink hard, rebuild and come back.

I am 100% over Holland but this is more on Blashill. Holland has collected TONS of draft picks (yes, 2-3 years or so too late) but Blashill sucks. If you watch a Wings game it's like pee-wee system. Chip the puck out of the zone #1 rule, hope you get it later on that'll work! They cough the puck up a ton, hence the other teams shooting 30+ every single night.

Without a bonafide top 3 pick not many guys are going to make an NHL impact ASAP. In 2-3 more years Zadina, Rasmussen, McIsaac will be developed we hope. Cholowski is looking to be a budding star and Larkin is Larkin, who will captain this team.

Kenny is to blame yes, but Blashill deserves plenty right now.

This is all according to plan.

Larkin/Mantha/Svechnikov/Cholowski/Hronek/Bertuzzi/etc acquired in the last few years of playoff hockey.

Rasmussen/Zadina/Veleno/Berggren/Lindstrom/etc. acquired as a bottom 10 team.

Add in a top 5 pick or two and more picks in the first few rounds and the Wings will have something going.

Wings couldn't beat the odds like they did in the past. Now they do a "standard" rebuild like every other good team in the league. To uninformed people they will look really bad until suddenly they become really good/promising. The timeline until that point will depend a lot on lottery luck. They need their slam-dunk such as Hughes.

You name 11 players. Not a single elite talent among them. This team is f***ed for the foreseeable future.

Larkin is much much better than he gets credit for. He had 63 pts last year, playing with a 24 goal scorer, and a team that scored barely 2 goals per game. He is also, quite good in his own end of the rink! He has 7 Pts through 10 games on a team that has 21 goals scored in 10 games, while the teamed has played piss poor in at least half those games, him being one of the only exceptions.

Not saying he is elite, but give him another 20-30 goal, 60 pt player to work with, and I can easily see him being an 80 pt player, which is quite good.

Holland is a tinkerer - he walked in as GM of a team that was already loaded. Detroit needs someone to build a new loaded team relatively from nothing. If only someone who has been through a build, has GM experience and knows Detroit was waiting in the wings...

And how much elite talent was Toronto's system until they landed Matthews? How much did Winnipeg have before they landed Laine?

Yeah they need 1 or 2 elite pieces for sure, but that's what they will hope for by being one of the league's worst teams.

Hi. You must be new to this rebuilding thing.

Larkin is a good player but a complimentary one on a playoff team.

What you'll need are 2 centres like Datyuk and Zetterberg in their primes just to barely eke into the playoffs.

You'll then need a Norris caliber Dman to be a contender.
