Here's our defense at 5 on 5, points/60 at ES.
Green .82
Jensen .68
XO .62
Ericsson .57
Dekeyser .49
Daley .48
Kronwall .31

Give Green's easy deployment, I don't think he's tough to replace.
Zdeno Chara is out producing him.
That's fine, I've said before that I'd be satisfied if we actually manage to replace his offense. You're showing a pretty significant difference- Green has a 21% edge over Jensen and a 32% edge over XO with your numbers. So the replacement is not currently on our team.

All I'm saying is I don't want to lose him for picks, or for a defenseman who might replace his production 3 years from now. We need that offensive ability NOW in my opinion, even at the expense of some laziness. From Green or from elsewhere.

But that's at least partially due to easy zone deployments and, I'd guess, more offensive linemates.
I'd rather get a guy who doesn't quit on plays.

Not to derail this conversation too much, but why now? I could certainly understand in 3-5 years, or locking in on a young asset who will be around in 5 years. But why does Detroit need a 30-something veteran for right now?

We need someone to get the puck to the forwards. That's pretty obvious. I just don't think we need a point producer who sucks at defense.

Signing Daley and not moving Green is gonna be the difference between the Wings drafting 6-9th overall or bottom three pick.

Anyone wanna argue it was worth it?

Maybe drafting 6-9th overall instead of bottom three will help preserve the Wings "winning culture"

I agree on Daley. Not moving Green mostly sucks for missing out on the draft pick. But, this team is done now mentally it looks like so I don't think he really impacts the team over the next 14 games one way or the other.

I'd like to see zone starts for our defensemen. I'd bet Green is pretty protected.

Surprisingly, it's Kronner getting the most protection.

Ozone percentage
Kronner 41.3
Green 34.5
XO 32.6
Jensen 30.8
Dekeyser 29.3
Daley 29.1
Ericsson 26.7

Maybe if Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona, Ottawa and Montreal weren’t so terrible the Red Wings would be in the bottom three.

Is Kronwall even going to play next year? I feel like this is it for him. Very good player on great teams in his prime with a big thud at the end.

There is no guarantee for a top 3 pick so unless you think Daley and Green are somehow influencing the lotto balls, no they are not the difference. We are leading the tank charge the last 10 games, right now keeping Green is looking like a stroke of genius for tanking purposes. We are possibly bottom 5 tomorrow. If AZ keeps playing well maybe they'll pass us. Ottawa and Vancouver are pretty much dead in the water though.

quit watching now with 5 minutes left. This was one of the worst performances i can remember seeing as a hockey fan, and that after the game yesterday. no talent, no desire, no fight

At least Coreau looked a lot better. Still miserable when it comes to lateral movement which will always burn him, but he gave them a chance to win

I expect Kronwall might retire (LtIR) after this season. He is in pretty bad shape health wise. And would easily qualify for Ltir right now :/

This Zetterberg ******ing on FSD is sickening.

FYI - Your captain over the last 14 games
2 goals 3 assists -1. Well over 20 minutes a night. About 2 shots a game.

If you're going to ****ing go overboard with Zetterberg compliments, someone needs to splash some water on you and wake you up.

Z the legend gets a pass.....just the way it is.....

throw in 71 production down the middle and you wonder why u can't win. Let's hype those useless secondary assists to over inflate production. a player like 71 with no high end skill trying to run the pp......must give pp specialists like Vanek a ****** a headache. Vaneks head is still spinning from the previous year watching that garbage.

The worst team has the best odds of drafting at the top so his point is valid. It's amazing how we constantly make dumb decisions like trading Pav's contract and signing Daley to remain competitive yet we are still one of the worst teams in the league and capped to the gills. We would laugh our asses off when Toronto would do silly stuff like this. It's totally indefensible.

Trading Datsyuk contract isn't a dumb move. Maybe what he did with the money was, but that trade was good.

People were saying that before this season as well. I think it's a lot of wishful thinking, Kronwall seems to want to play until he physically cannot play anymore or until he gets forced to LtIR or step aside - who in this organization is going to do that?

Well, assuming you watched the games in question... Are you happy with the team's effort? Should Hank be?
And why bring up points? I didn't see Z's latest post game comments, but I doubt he he is bagging on other players because they are not scoring enough goals and assists.

At this stage of the season it's about playing the game the right way, putting in the effort and not being a lazy D-bag floater just because your season is in the toilet. If Z starts floating then someone can tell him to put a sock in it. Until then, I'm glad he's fired up, a team doing this badly should have a locker room full of players with big chips on their shoulders, and they should have no tolerance for vets or youngsters who are mailing it in on a consistent basis.

I had no desire to call out Z's pisspoor production until these idiots at Fox Sports started talking about how great he's been.
How me another forward in the NHL getting 20+ minutes a night and producing so little. Other than Nyquist.

Redder Winger answered it just fine, but I'll repeat - we need someone to get pucks to our forwards.

Larkin is not learning how to set up a 5 man play involving the defense. He is not learning how to cycle and sustain the zone. He is not learning how to receive a pass, or how to drop it back to the blue line and expect to get it back cleanly. Those skills need to be honed and he is simply not having that experience. Same with the other forwards. They are playing by themselves. The cycle consists of out racing opposing d to dig the puck out of the boards, then maybe 1 or 2 passes at most, then going back to play d.

Green is the only player on our back end providing any experience whatsoever of puck control. That experience is needed. It's sorely lacking as is; lose Green and it's non-existent.

I am more than happy to lose him for a sufficient replacement. But i have not yet seen that replacement.
