Thanks for sharing, good guy Doug Armstrong.
Man, Doug Armstrong is a nice dude. Respect.
Abdelkader can not put 300 points even if his team played the whole game PP 5 on 3 and the opponent without the goalie.
As a Stars fan, I wouldve been willing to take the risk with Fabbri as well, sure we couldve offered a comparable to DLR.
I Like this move for the Red Wings. Low risk, and if the injuries slow down for him, they have a good middle 6 player for the forseeable future.
DLR was far from stellar at anything! He was simply playing good for a 4th liner, nothing more nothing less. The absolute best you could say is he was adequate in his role and easily replaceable as seen by Ehn providing the same presence the very next game after DLR got moved. I have nothing wrong if DLR was still here, but to pretend it was a bad trade is silly!
You are the only one talking about all these passes DLR set up, where are they all? There weren't that many, on top of Helm has 5 goals this year which at this point in the season is high for him, so to suggest that Helm wasted all these beauty feeds from DLR doesn't make sense. DLR isn't even an offensive player and he wasn't really creating any offence either.
I mean we did claim DLR off waivers, flipped him for a 23 year old first round pick.
I was waiting for the GDT to post this but I’m a little impatient. As I mentioned in the Bruins GDT, I’m cheering for the Winged Wheel this season to play exciting hockey while getting a top 2 pick. I hope Robby continues his comeback and rewards Stevie’s faith in him.
Cheers from the West Coast.
(Forgive me if I re-post this in the GDT once it’s set up, I just didn’t think I had the right to start it).
I do the deal eight days a week even if it turns out to be a "bad" deal at the end of the day. For a team at the bottom of its competative cycle, Fabbri can have a much greater impact on the team's fortunes than someone like DLR (who I actually like a lot). If we were at the top of our competative cycle looking to make incremnetal improvements to the team, I may stress over the relative quality of a fourth-line center. We obviosuly are not yet at that point.
I dig the chemistry between Bert and Fab. Both played together in Guelph and it's been showing so far.
Robby Fabbri Relishing Chance with Detroit Red Wings - LWOH
Obviously Helm didn't waste all of them, DLR had 3 assists all to Helm. Helms career SH% is equivalent to a defenseman shooting from the point.
If you want examples, go rewatch the games. They don't post highlights of 4th liners missing the goal. I've watched most of the games, that's all I gotta say.
Armstrong may be a nice guy, but trading Fabbri to a division rival, who is trying to contend, could have backfired massively for the Blues. Thus the price for Detroit was much lower.
Fabbri point streak and WIngs' winning streak now at 3 games, GWG and 2 GWAs.
I miss JDLR
What an amazing get. Trust the Yzerplan.
Just wanted to say that Detroit traded a young player, Adam Oates decades ago, to St. Louis in what turned out to be a lopsided deal in favor of St. Louis.
It is nice to see St. Louis return the favor decades later in a classy move to help accommodate a player's wishes. Hopefully we get similar mileage out of Fabbri.
2 goals in his first game and then 2 assists on 2 GWG.
He is obviously the key in those 3 wins.
We have seen this before. It will be interesting to see how this plays out rest of the way.
So far so good.
That would be three decades ago. June 1989.
You obviously aren’t wrong but it feels weird to say the Oates trade was just “more than a decade ago” when it happened more than three decades ago at this point.
I had heard that Oates was traded, in part, due to a relationship with GM/coach's daughter or something like that. Is there any truth to that?
I have never heard that. Sounds like a backhanded way to explain one of the most lopsided trades in DRW history.
Yzerman absolutely fleeced STL in that trade.
Maybe she was a worth
Sounds like Strome 2.0.
Who won that trade Ari or Chi?
