Take away two PP goals, who thinks he had a good game? I thought he played okay. Showed up a couple of times but just like most of our other players, was fairly invisible most of the night. Happy he got the 2 PP goals though. Hopefully enough to jump start his confidence for a new team.
If he strictly becomes a powerplay specialist it will still be a big win for the team, so I don't see the problem.

That's what I like about having a "real" GM. Yzerman is looking left and right to make moves to improve this team. With Holland, there would be no trades, nothing, just him talking about keeping status quo and following the process.
Yep, it had been pretty obvious for the final half dozen or so years that Holland was stuck in his ways and that the organization was going nowhere.

If he has chemistry with Bert , maybe he should be with Larkin and Bertuzzi

the more I watch our games the more clear it gets that we need another good center. Someone with finish and speed. I like Filp, don’t get me wrong. But it looks like he’s there to defensively babysit AA.

Absolutely. Alot of our scoring woes come from not having elite centers. Or at the very least a 1a/1b centers with Larkin being the 1b guy. Our wingers need savvy puck distributors.

add our comical blueline outside of Hronek and Cholowski when he's on, we are desperate for efficient puck movers.

Lets also not forget that the majority of people see the trade as "what can it do for me now," rather than looking at Erne, Perlini and Fabbri as future depth pieces for when they actually turn this ship around. Erne, Perlini, Fabbri, when Yzerman makes a significant push to advance the team, I'd rather have Erne, Perlini and Fabbri as three of my bottom six, versus unknown prospects, Helm, Abs, Frans.

**ps also to the peeps who said he was invisible, had an okay game.....lol :help:, first game, new system, hasn't played much this year.....ill leave it at that.

Haven’t been here in a while but wanted to chime in.

Seems like a player that COULD rediscover his career here. Either way I think this trade favors Detroit even if DLR helps the Blues repeat. I just feel like down the road Fabbri can contribute more and really is the better player. DLR is a completely redundant player, but has solid aspects to his defensive game, however won’t be tremendously effective offensively.

Fabbri’s potential alone can justify this trade and really question those who think this isn’t lopsided Detroit’s way - even if Fabbri doesn’t improve, it’s still a good trade.

He scored twice, probably based on hype or excitement, but his shot did look really good and he looked good skating. Just depends if he can continue building confidence and improving to fulfill his potential.

I don’t want to get excited, but hopefully he can. Apparently Blues fans have said it’s been a while since he’s smiled like the way he did tonight

I think if everything goes as it should, this might be extremely lopsided to our favour.
And this is not a bad trade for the Blues either. He simply couldn't not find his game there and the gm decided to let go one frustrated player go.
It is win win for both teams, much more for us for the obvious reasons.

Fabbri scores two GOALS in Red Wings debut
Robby Fabbri, who was acquired by the Red Wings on Wednesday, scored two goals in his team debut. He became the seventh player in franchise history to score twice in his team debut and just the second over the last 34 years.

Fabbri_Media-09120055.png

* Fabbri recorded the fourth multi-goal game of his NHL career and first since a hat trick on Dec. 28, 2016 with St. Louis (3-0—3 vs. PHI). Fabbri is no stranger to finding the score sheet multiple times; he made history three years ago when he became the youngest player to record three or more points in a Game 7 at 20 years and 110 days old (1-2—3 at DAL), eclipsing the previous mark set by Calgary’s Paul Reinhart (21 years, 108 days) in 1981 (0-3—3 at PHI).

* Tyler Bertuzzi assisted on each goal by Fabbri. The two were reunited after skating together for three seasons with the OHL’s Guelph Storm from 2012-13 to 2014-15, including capturing the J. Ross Robertson Cup as league champions in 2013-14. Fabbri also won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as MVP of the OHL Playoffs that year (13-15—28 in 16 GP).

Wow dude is gonna get a big opportunity

It looked like it was Bertuzzi on the half wall, Larkin net front, Fabbri in the slot for both goals. Not sure if Larkin net front makes sense, but Bert definitely belongs on the half wall, he's got good hockey IQ and some sweet passing going on.

For the couple of posters that insist anyone could have made those 2 shots, you know Larkin would have hit the crossbar twice if he was lined up in the slot.

Keep in mind fellow Wings fans here that there were actually some Detroit fans criticizing this trade in this thread.

Simply stunning.
I don't think anyone was criticizing it, I just think DLR was underrated because he got stuck with wingers that can barely score.

It does look like this may be the trade that turns this season around. That and McIlrath getting called up. Dude can clear the crease like a Zamboni.... and Hirose is definitely headed to GR now.

De Le Rose has nevee in his career been a scorer. Not in the SHL, AHL or NHL.
I like De Le Rose he is dependable 4th line guy. But the league is full of them.

To take a chance on Fabbri was smart. Even if it doesn't work out in the future it was still a good move.

No, he's not a scorer, but he made a bunch of great passes to Helm and Abby. If he had real wingers, he has potential to be a third line center. He looked better than Flip and Nielsen all season (which of course is a really low bar).

If you have an opportunity to trade a bottom 6 for a top 6, you take it every time. Obviously love the trade, but there's no reason to bag on DLR. He played well for us this season.

I literally dont think a single person would disagree with this. I dont think anyone would say it was a bad trade?

2 wins that he has been a major contributing factor in now, definitely looks like with ice time and some confidence he could get his scoring knack back.

He doesnt do a lot defensively but he does hustle in his own end and on the back check. Hopefully that comes with time.

It will be interesting to see what his contract will be if he extends with us. Health concerns are legitimate but he looks and comes across like a guy that would know his own worth.

Who else from that 2014 first round is on the block ? Honka ? Ho-Sang ? Bring them all in !!!

Nielsen @ 30% retained

Not sure we should be that hung up on the defensive aspects of his game at this point. Guy has talent. This team needs some of that.

NO THANKS! He is well known for having a "what about me" attitude on top of the fact that he isn't producing at the NHL level.

I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic about Fabbri. Glad we got him, but I’m afraid to put hype on him yet.

But, I still can’t deny what he’s brought the last two games. Now that I’ve seen what he can do, I want to see if it’s puck luck or skill.

I'm one of those fans. Its not really that stunning. Prior to the trade Fabbri was playing terrible and had missed 2 full seasons because of leg injuries. De la Rose had been stellar as a 4th line shut down guy.

Fabbri has looked revitalized playing for the Wings and that's great. He's skating really well and providing offense the Wings were desperate for. It's also only been 2 games. Him playing well means increased minutes and responsibility, which is fine unless his tears his ACL again and ends up LTIR - possibly forced to retire.

The Wings have been so bad this year that I do not think trading one of our few reliable players for a high risk/high reward type was the right decision. So far its paying off, but this is a trade that probably shouldn't be chalked up as a success until Fabbri is still healthy a few months from now.

It’s not a high risk trade. It’s the lowest risk trade. You traded a known commodity, which is a dime a dozen 4th line forward. Different versions of JDLR are available every single year in free agency or waivers, and the team has several of them already in the organization.

The worst case scenario is Fabbri gets injured and has to retire, in which case the Wings promote Givani Smith or Dominic Turgeon to fill in the void DLR left, and we the fans don’t even notice a difference.

The upside though, is ridiculously high. The ability Fabbri had before the injuries was extremely high. He looked like a sure fire first line offensive dynamo.

Yzerman doesn’t make the trade unless he feels confident in Fabbri’s ability, meaning you traded a 4th liner for someone our GM has assessed and feels confident enough in recapturing his game.
