One Spitfire prospect named to the USA Development Team -17 today
Dman Dominic Fensore.
Another dman that was trying out ,Cade Webber did not get named, wouldn't be surprised if the Spits try harder to recruit him now.
A big body guy with huge upside, hopefully he can be convinced to come to main camp, and take things from there.

David Quinn and BU is a better place to develop right now compared to Windsor and Rocky Thompson.

No chance he returns next season, takes up 2 spots ,O/A and import,he is not ready for AHL,next season it's East Coast or back home I predict.

Yeah I figured chance was slim to none due to being OA and and import. I'd agree that he's likely not ready for the AHL but I suppose it depends on what Anaheim's development plan is for him.

If you were to look at him last year people would think he's AHL ready. Just because he didn't produce under Rocky shouldn't eliminate him from being AHL ready. By your same thinking Jeremy Bracco isn't ready either because his production plummeted in Windsor as well.

True but you're assuming Rocky will still be coach which IMHO is not a given...Once the Memorial Cup is just a memory the winds of change might sweep through the WFCU..

That's why I said right now. Of course if Rocky isn't around that new coach would have to make a huge impression because Webber is slated to go there in Sept 2020. If the Spits are indeed rebuilding it might take 3+ years to get this team close to decent.

proposed opening day line-up

Based on what those have said from the rookie camp ( thanks to all) and what I'm assuming will take place here is my first shot at an opening day line-up - all of this will change when impacted by trades, players at NHL camps and so on.

Fowards -

Brown - Villardi - Import
Laishram - Luchuk- Boka
?? - Angle - ??
Loon Stewardson - Playfair - Purboo

Defense -
Sergachev - Day
Nother - Stanley
MeEneny - Corcoran
Fallowfield - Staios
Extra D - Burns - Trifone

Goal -
DiPietro
Baier
Patton

For me the glaring need is up front - need 1 or 2 goal scorers - this could come from moving some of our extra D - but they need to be young snipers to make this work. Maybe somebody in the fold will fill the bill but not seeing that from what others are saying from the first scrimmages.

Obviously things can/will change but on the surface that looks like an awful roster. With all this talk about D I wouldn't be surprised the talk of Stanley going to Kitchener in the offseason comes to fruition. So you probably want to delete Stanley there. Specifically as you mentioned those forwards you will have a team that relies on D and goaltending AGAIN. Only to have a group of forwards that have problems scoring therefore putting too much stress on the D. As was the case this year the D and G can only take you so far it wasn't a matter of time if the dam was going to break it would be when. The last 2 playoff games they gave up far too many terrific scoring chances to London and they finally broke through.

What scares me is, no matter who you bring in, player-wise, you're going to be having the same defensive systems. I respect those systems; they worked for the most part. However, you can't stifle the offensive talents and expect to win when it counts. Three teams ahead of us - SSM, London, and Erie - all had suffocating defence, but they also allowed their forwards to get creative and show offensive prowess.

You forgot the Attack who lead all of those clubs mentioned with the stingiest defence, 177 GA, and a differential of 120.

A lot of the activities will be centered around the Casino ( downtown area) there are shuttles that will be running from there to the rink but I'm not clear if these are for fans as well - lots to do at the 3 community rinks beside the main bowl as well - Lots of hotels downtown and it is as close as any to the rink - 15 minute drive. Also lots of places to eat downtown so I would suggest that area. Not much in the way of hotels close to the rink but tons of places to eat - my favorite Smoke & Spice ( if you like BBQ - smoked meats) - only 5 minutes to the rink.

There are no hotels within walking distance of the arena. I'll start off with that. However, hotels are easily accessible by car. There are several hotels (Hampton, Holiday Inn, Super 8, Travelodge, etc.) a 10-15 min drive away on Huron Church Road. It's 5-min from the arena to EC Row WB (south of the rink), then 10 min on the highway. All hotels on Huron Church are north of EC Row (south of EC Row is where they just built a new highway so very little is there).

If you want a bit closer, there are a handful of hotels (Comfort Inn and a couple of local, non-chain ones) on Dougall Ave, which is a couple min before/east of Huron Church (2 exits) on EC Row. All hotels on Dougall are south of EC Row. It's a pretty solid commercial area - restaurants, hotels, retail, that kind of thing. Dougall Ave connects the 401 to downtown so it's always pretty busy.

If you'd rather stay downtown (there will likely be some activites downtown during the week), there are some hotels (chains and local). It's easy to get to the arena from downtown, too, and about a 20-min drive along the river (Riverside Drive).

Regarding food...

Just south of the arena is a main road (Tecumseh Road). It has all kinds of places like Smoke 'n Spice (southern BBQ), East Side Marios, Red Lobster, Wendy's, KFC, McDonalds, Tim Horton's, etc. There's the Tecumseh Mall, too, but it's not a place you'll spend much time in (just a heads-up). The area has a nice mixture of chain and local restaurants, depending on your taste.

Huron Church also has some food - Dairy Queen, Applebees, Pizza Hut, Wendy's (I think?), Taco Bell, Tim Horton's, a restaurant in the Holiday Inn (not sure the name).

Dougall Ave has a few places like McDonald's, KFC, Harvey's, Taco Bell, and local restaurants like Cramdon's, Capri Pizza.

Downtown has a lot of locally run restaurants, all depending on your preference. I've been to a few of them and can recommend specifics if you want.

This is a pretty basic guide so far. If you're interested in more detail, let me know. Happy to help.

Thanks for all this good info.
I'm bringing my young adult son , for his birthday, which occurs perfectly May 19!

This will be the 3rd Memorial Cup we've attended, the last 3 hosted in Ontario, and we are looking forward to Windsor. And arena Pizza !

I really like the WFCU, best sound system in the O and the Mem Cup is a must do for us junior hockey junkies.

PS, hedging my bets on the Attack we've got seats for Spits/ OHL game.

If Windsor sells, as they should if they want to start recouping draft picks they really need to have a busy offseason to jump start a rebuild. If they are not one of the busiest teams this off season I would be extremely disappointed.

Obviously between the summer/main camp a lot can happen, maybe a few surprises as far as who reports and who is possibly acquired in trades but with all the potential moves and likely a very young roster after the deadline card management will be key.

Off season moves will be important for managing cards this season. With eight or nine players who could potentially be moved this season depending on who returns from pro camps it's unrealistic to think you can move them all at the deadline and have cards left over to dress a full roster. With Stanley, Day, Sergachev, Brown, Villardi, Luchuk, Laishram and DiPietro all candidates for trades that could bring solid returns some need to move in the off season while the rest at the deadline.

The only one of that group I would consider keeping is DiPietro. Baier and Patton are both unknowns at this point along with anyone else in the system. DiPietro will be back for two more years and with Baier, Patton and DiPietro all the same age two of the three will definitely be gone when this team is ready to compete again. Does Windsor have a 16 or 17 year old in the system ready for the back up role? If so then I could see moving DiPietro at the deadline as well.

Opening night I would like to see

Import - Vilardi - 17 year old trade acquisition
Angle - Luchuk(OA) - Import
Playfair - Laischram(OA) - Boka
Loon-Stewardson - ??? - Purboo
??? - ??? - ???

Staois - Corcoran
Fallowfield - Nother
Robertson(OA) - Burns/Trifone/???
??? - ???

DiPietro
Baier
Patton

If the Stanley rumours are true he will be gone this offseason, if not then move him in the offseason for a better return than what's been rumoured.

Brown needs to be moved in the offseason and Rychel needs to get a 17 year old with scoring potential plus picks.

Sergachev, need to move his rights in the offseason in case he is returned. Yes, it would only be picks that are conditional on his return but it is important in a rebuilding year that all assets, especially potential high end imports are maximized. If he doesn't return you're not getting anything for him anyways and if he does return you have assets coming back without having to deal with the import situation after the season starts.

Day I think is 50/50 at best to return. If he does return keep him until the deadline.

Any other surprise returns from the pro camps or OAs who want one more season, move them asap, get what you can and move on.

Unless management has completely lost their minds this team has no option except to rebuild. Do it right, right from the start. Go young, hoard picks they acquire and get a couple of potential high end 17 year olds in deals we are sending players in.

I'm all for a rebuild - but it has to be done across the entire year - a fan of Moving Sergachev early - one of Brown or Stanley early - the rest later on - Would keep McEneny over Robertson as an OA but would be ok if he moves in a deadline deal - same for Luchuk or Laishram. This is a tough year for a GM - time will tell who that is and how he handles this year.

Terrific post cfaub if part of the rebuild isn't done during the offseason they're only pushing back the rebuild efforts for the long term. You will be saddled with players taking up cards during the year and limiting what you can actually get in return, players that you can start developing right in September through March.

Looks like the rumours of Logan Brown to Ottawa next season can be put to bed.
Father quits as GM/coach of 67's to return to St Louis....
