I think it'd be a slap in the face of fans to abbreviate the name to LAS when they decided the name would only be Vegas.
Regardless of their short-sighted & silly decision to drop las the name of the city is not Vegas

How will the NHL name us, VGK looks so strange, VEG might be much better.
Or how about GOL.
I wouldn't be upset with LAS :)

VGK for the team is just as strange as CBJ for Columbus or TBL for Tampa Bay.

The NHL seems to prefer abbreviations that use the first letter of each word instead of the first three letters or the City name, so VGK is probably the most lilely option.

They used CBJ because COL was already used by the Avs. Not sure why they didn't use TAM though.

Not "Veg" as it's also an abbreviation of "vegetables" and connotes vegan

My money is on the team's initials: Vegas Golden Knights. What's weird about VGK?

I know, but the official name for now is Vegas Golden Knights, I don't think they'll abbreviate the team name to LAS when it's not even part of the name.

Small detail though, it shouldn't really matter too much.

I think people are already pushing the VGK thing. There's a shirt that actually says VGK in one of the shops around town.

I see "LAS" and I think of their airport --- which incidentally, brings a big smile to my face.

LAS = GOOD

VGK has a good ring to it, actually. Like ATL or CPK, I could see that as shorthand. Veegeekay.
For you old Vegas folks, maybe you remember GPK?

Why wouldn't it be LV? Most two letter cities get the two letter abbreviation.

Tampa Bay "TB"
San Jose "SJ"
Los Angeles "LA"
Etc.

Because the team and Adidas, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the team was in Vegas instead of Las Vegas.

Back in the day, there used to be a gang based out of Gerson Park in NLV (projects which no longer exist) called Gersey Park Klansmen. They went by GPK and they were not good. End of history lesson.

:shakehead The team IS in "Vegas", the tourist region, NOT the municipality of Las Vegas.

They didn't decide it is in Vegas. They just went with the fact of the matter.

You're the one that said the Eiffel Tower Restaurant was at Caesars a couple of days ago, right?
