let me just echo what other preds fans are saying:

so happy for Tomas, huge honor...

but please, let them start Hasek. Vokey needs the rest :D

As an aside, this will give opposing commentators one less pearl to include in their jewelry box of canned statements to make about the Predators. It never fails:

"In net for the Preds tonight is of course Tomas Vokoun, who will vie for the goaltending duty with Dominik Hasek. Boy, what a problem to have!"

They will start Hasek for the same reasons canada starts Brodeur. You can't not play him. There may be better talent and younger guys waiting in the wings but you can't sit players that good with that much experience and guys that have won that much.

hopefully vokoun... for my pools sake, but they will probably go with Hasek for the first few or possibly switch em' up every game to see who's on and who's not.

I tend to agree with this point. Hasek is a great goalie who deserves the start, but Vokoun is also great and has the World Championships fresh on his mind (so to speak). I too, think there will be a rotation early on, with a set in stone type deal as the games progress.

Poor Hasek's equipment got lost. He got to Italy but it didn't, said the Ottawa Citizen. Would link, but subscriber only.

edit: nevermind, I'm illiterate. Someone beat me to it. Um. The new equipment looks bad on him.

Cechmanek actually wasnt bad for the CZE Republic in the 99-01 times.
He wasnt Hasek but he wasnt bad.

I never understood all the bad comments about Cechmanek. Sure, he wasn't consistent, but it's not like he didn't stand on his head quite a few times, while he was let down by his teammates.

I can't talk about the time he spend in the Czech Republic this season, but he was fantastic early on in Germany.
He was player of the month and won one low scoring game after another, his stats were superb and nobody could beat him in a shootout. He stopped like 20 straight penalties, enough to win every shootout handily.
His play has become worse though. He had to play every game, because all the other goalies were injured or re-injured themselves right when they came back. In addition to that the team lost quite a few defensemen to injuries.

With a Cechmanek who plays like he did in the early stages of his DEL-season, the Czech Rep. wouldn't have a problem to compete with any other team in the Olympics, even Canada. He might not be as good as Vokoun or Hasek, but he surely would surprise quite a few people...

Sucks that Hasek injured his groin...I know exactly how he feels right now as far as pain goes, and hopefully anyone who has never had a groin injury doesn't get one...it just flat out sucks. Hopefully for the Sens sake once Olympics are over,he won't be out too long. Vokoun IMO can handle playing the rest of the way and I think it's just good for the Czechs have another great goalie in this case.
