He gets 1 point wrong. If the As come here, it won't be in Henderson. They'll be no more than a block from The Strip

To be determined. Thus far the Athletics brain trust have looked at potential stadium locations in Summerlin, Henderson, plus Downtown LV, and north of US95/east of I15 (Cashman), as well as near Strip locations.

I believe one of the near resort area they've looked at is Harmon between Koval and Paradise. That's at least "two" blocks off the Strip. :sarcasm:

Ha, I mean technically the edge of the stadium property would be a block away over there (if you consider the block to be from the boulevard to Koval).

I know they've looked at spots all around the valley but realistically given the spot they're demanding from Oakland and where the Raiders put their stadium I can't see them coming here for anything other than a strip spot

yeah, but I feel the Raiders stat is misleading. A good chunk of those "non resident" PSLs were bought by casinos

I actually think a big chunk are from California. And doubt A’s get more than a handful of that. (Easier to do 6-8 times a year, assuming you sell a few)

I also think Knights number is inflated, while I bet there is some tourism, it’s probably somewhat inflated in the first few years with the novelty. And will reduce over time. Also, atleast to me, baseball games are much less an “event” and not sure many ppl in town might just catch a game for fun. Especially since MLB and Vegas have somewhat different age demos.

They have considered the ease of locals being about to get to the stadium as well. Anything that isn't a straight shot from I15 and across LVB to parking may be harder for locals to get to. :sarcasm:

True, but to play devil's advocate, maybe "Vegas'ing" up the baseball experience is what's needed to connect to younger fans.

If anywhere can make baseball an appealing spectacle to younger folks, it's Vegas

I wonder how many more teams Vegas can handle ?
Went from Zero Pro teams to Two in short order, with potentially a third on the way.

Before there were major league teams there were the MiLB Aviators (formerly 51s). And there's the Las Vegas Motor Speedway which hosts Indy and NASCAR races. And the National Finals Rodeo, National Bull Riders, and many equine events around the valley. Plus the Mint 300 and more.

Then VGK, Aces, and Raiders. And USL Lights FC, NLL team (name not yet revealed) and IFL team (name not revealed).

I know this is terribly off topic from your point; which I agree with you on. But...

Yeah, Indy ain't going back to Vegas.

In addition to the two NASCAR events at LVMSW, they also host EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), holiday Glittering LIghts, a police chase experience and more.

Right, that was just me being an IndyCar fan, not really speaking to anything about Vegas as a sports market. I was one of the very few on this BOH forum that was totally onboard with NHL expansion to Vegas. Of all the non-Vegas resident posters, I was probably the biggest advocate for Vegas expansion.

The Vegas track just isn't good for IndyCar because it's just 100% hammer-down racing where no one ever has to lift, and it's wide open where you have multiple lines you can use instead of one groove except to pass. The last race there was a recipe for disaster... and everyone knew it. Leading up to the race, everyone knew it would be insanity, talked openly about how wild it was going to be, and how everyone hoped no one got hurt. The pre-race meeting, the pre-race interviews... virtually all the fans watching... everyone expected "The Big One." Which is not what you want the vibe to be before an event.

Indy won't got back to Vegas unless the course itself is changed. Because even with the other "Perfect Storm" factors not being there --- that race was the last event with the old chassis, so everyone just put all their cars on the track and they had 12 extra cars in the field! -- it's still too dangerous to have pack racing on a course that flat and open.

FWIW, Las Vegas is (now) marketing itself as the Sports and Entertainment capital of the world.

NFL. Check.
NBA. Check (summer league, monopoly).
WNBA. Check.
NHL. Check.
Soccer. Check. (USL Lights FC)
Baseball. Check. (MILB Aviators)
PGA Golf. Check (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open)
Tennis. Check (have hosted ATP events in the past)
Rodeo. Big check (National Finals; NBR finals)
Water sports (Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas). Check
Rock climbing. Check.
Roller Derby. Yep.

And almost every sport you can think of.

Just to add the LPGA had a matchplay event there too at Shadow Creek. Not sure if its continuing for a few years.

What a sad list to market yourself as the sports and entertainment capital of the world.

A’s Vegas relocation exploration following Raiders blueprint

Summary of the As trip to LV this past week. Article mentions some companies they've used to study traffic and transportation (in LV) to help understand where to position stadium, and survey out of market fans about interest in coming to LV for a game.

One (new=ish) site would be south of Strip, near new high speed train station, and just off I-15 and access from CC215/I-215.

They are planning a 6th trip in a couple of weeks.
