What would the Devils be looking at for a trade ?
A fast, mobile and young top 4 LHD

are the Devils interested in trading him ? I know he is having a tougher year compared to his last year.

Mtl is pretty open to a trade that would benefits both team.

Stay the course Montreal, there is no realistic hope of competing this season. I don't see New Jersey trading one of three good defencemen they have for anything stomachable, also isn't Butcher's primary weakness as a player his skating speed or was that overblown?

New Jersey needs their defensemen and Butcher isn't necessarily better than what Mete projects to be. We can afford to be patient.

I don't think what Montreal would have to pay is worth it.

He's a decent skater with good edge work, but he isn't fast whatsoever. His primary flaw.

I wouldn't say Butcher is off the table from NJ's POV. I just don't see anything working with Montreal.

NJ would need offense coming back in a relatively young/cost controlled player. I don't see anything in Montreal that they would be willing to give up? Maybe I am missing something?

Poehling for Butcher ?
Devils would get their #2c next year and Montreal their top 4 LHD

But I doubt Devils would want to trade Butcher after what I read

I don't know enough about Butcher, but from what I read he seems to be really struggling this year, but then again who isn't on that team. Not a bad offer just don't think Montreal gives up a potential 2C for Butcher at this time.

Ya the sophomore ( or junior ? not sure of the term in English) slump, happens to almost anyone.
Butcher is amazing to create plays, he's not the fastest but has great edges and turns. Not sure if the Devils would do it, but honestly it feels both team major hole.

what would get it done from your pov?
Like I said earlier NJ needs offense coming back not a prospect. NJ can't afford to remove 30 to 40 points and their #1 PP quaterback from their lineup and hope a player develops. I am not sure that Poehling as a prospect brings NJ much more than Mcleod does also... They both seem like 3rd centers to me...but without doing any evaluation of Poehling there is just too much uncertainty for that to be the center-piece in a deal for Butcher.

It would have to be an NHL player and it should be a younger cost controlled player.

I mean I would offer Lehkonen for Butcher, but I doubt you will accept it.
Similar age, cost controlled , amazing 200 ft and forecheck for his young age ( playing like a veteran)

Butcher has 54 points in 109 career games as a Dman. .49 PPG

Lehkonen has 65 points in 169 career games. .38 PPG

That doesn't appear to help NJ's offense.

Butcher has been a pleasent surprise for the Devils but i don't see us giving up the assets that the Devils fans would be asking for.
Mete and Juulsen will both be fine.
