Butcher has 3 PP points in over +100 PP minutes over the past two seasons. He can play PP2 if you need him to but he should be no means be considered a PP specialist.

While fair, I think our powerplay as a whole has been trash the last three years at least.

His rookie year under Ward and obviously with Hall and Palms playing well also, he did very well. I think he’s capable of being a solid PP QB but there’s always several factors to a successful PP unit and a good structure is the first step. Whatever we’ve done here the last few years has felt painful.

7th D man should be a righty.

If we need a lefty we call up Bahl.

Would be comical at this point and I'm not sure he's at that stage in his career, but Vat's would be cool.

Glad we put the guy out of his misery. His lack of usage last year was a bit unfair considering how bad we were.
He played late in the year. Didn't play much early but the D was pretty solid until the trade deadline.

You know, I don’t know anymore with you. We kept you around as a pick when we should’ve forfeited and now the sarcasm…

This trade is really weird. We have so much cap space and just made more. There’s got to be someone that fitz is targeting. Maybe tarasenko, or an offer sheet?

"Dude, your getting a Dell!"

The Sabres are now another team I can’t even laugh at with that goalie tandem. Just like the Flyers with Martin Jones.

Is that seriously the expected goalie tandem heading into this year for you guys? 105 year old Craig Anderson who was pretty much brought out of retirement after 2 days and Aaron Dell? I can’t believe some of the goalies that are still being signed for NHL deals this year. I really thought guys like Dell and Hutton and even Martin Jones have all been relegated to third stringer territory. The Oilers just won’t let go of Mike Smith and push him into retirement because of one hot fluky year and 38-39 years old after a couple of lousy ones in a row.

I’m now expecting some team to sign Cory Schneider to a one year one way deal for $750k. Arizona would probably be interested.

The Sabres have a young goaltender that they might go with as their other NHL starter, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, but that does mean the mummified remains of Craig Andersen is still half of their NHL tandem.

I wrote out “maybe Anderson is #3 and Dell is #4 and Adams will sign whatever starter flotsam is left” but I then looked to see what UFA goalies were left and Dubnyk is basically it (Well, Rask and Lundqvist are UFAs too but they aren’t options). That’s why I will tussle on with anyone who complains about Bernier, there are very few appealing UFA goalie options, a few realistic but unappetizing UFA goalie options and then literally fringe nobodies when free agency starts and the good ones go fast.

There are only nine UFA goalies left listed on Cap Friendly who played a NHL game last season, including Rask and Dubnyk. There’s Ottawa’s worst goalie last season Marcus Hogberg, Curtis McElhinney (38) who was awful on Tampa, One of Philly’s terrible trio Alex Lyon, One of the 17 random AHL goalies who played on Buffalo last year Micheal Hauser, Louis LOL Domingue, a Finnish overager drafted in 2018 with one career NHL game Veini Vehvilainen and a FA KHL goalie with one career NHL game Artyom Zagidulin. Yikes. Shelves really do get bare quickly with UFA goalies.

I was expecting and kind of hoping for this to happen. Allthough, I would have preferred to not pay a pick to do so obviously. My question is, If we Paid Buffalo to take him, how could we not pay Seattle to take him? It just makes that whole expansion draft that much more mind-boggling and frustrating to me.

I guess this is fine. I think he was somehwere in between his rookie season, and his down seasons. Surprised we couldn't get more for him - but at least he'll be busy in Buffalo.

From the reports out there on what Seattle was asking, we'd have had to pay a lot more than a 5th to get them to take him off our hands.

Get more for him? We didn't get anything for him. We had to pay them to take him.
