So was it Dumba that took GMPF out and got him drunk, or was it GMPF that took Dumba out and got him drunk? Who signs a contract at 2am on a Sat morning? :sarcasm:

Dumba folks are going to hate this comment, but $6 million/year is a lot for a guy who has played 1/2 a season of top-4 level defense.

Knew he'd get six once he hit 50 points, but this seems pretty reasonable with the increased cap. Keeps him at market value and shows trust that he can continue to play better in his own zone. Worth it for me to give a little extra to guys who are actually fun to watch.

Parise and Suter will only have 30 million more on the books when this one expires.

If that 1/2 season comes at 23 after showing 3 years of consistent progress? I'm good with it.

Happy to have it done. Would have liked more term personally, but 5 years was always probably the most realistic option. AAV is right around what I expected.

He's about on par with Krug and Barrie % of the cap from a couple of years ago. Even before his d-zone jump in play last year he was as good or better than them for defensive play.

There is room in Dumba's game to add 10 PPP on a yearly basis, so he should be in the 50p-60p range for the duration of his contract.

It's odd that there is nothing for NHL.com, Wild.com, or any of the Wild's social media accounts about this signing.

Russo's reporting he has a modified NTC for the last 2 years of the deal. I suppose we should expect the same for Zucker, though with more no-trade years.

Contract structure seems weird, too.

2018-19: $5.2m
2019-20: $7.4m
2020-21: $4.8m
2021-22: $7.4m
2022-23: $5.2m

Saving money for all the Kaprizov bonuses.
20-21 is the CBA year. A lot of deals are structured similarly as the players could end up losing some of that money if there is a lockout. Even on the Wild's own roster, Nino and Brodin both have much lower paid that season.

Thaaat's right. I was thinking expansion draft but totally forgot about the CBA. Gracias.

Lots of players have been trying to get the 20-21 season to be a heavy signing bonus pay year, or a lesser salary year offset by higher pay other seasons. A potential lockout is on the mind of the players' agents at least.

Oh also the yearly salary makes no difference for the NHL cap, like it does in the NFL. It could effect the owners pocketbook on a year to year basis is about it. I don't think that's a big concern for CL considering how much he's spent on buyouts over the years.

Guessed 4x6M earlier, so close enough. I'm not upset with it, but not thrilled. I still feel like I don't know what Dumba truly will be.

I'm glad that it got done before arbitration. The Jets/Trouba situation has to suck for instance.

We’ve spent six years questioning what Dumba’s potential really is and how far he can go, and he’s spent six years showing yearly improvement. I’m absolutely okay with 6M per year to see him continue to silence his detractors.

Man, poor Winnipeg. Trouba's $12m contract is going to murder them.
$8m will...and it doesn't look like they'll do it.

I'm shocked at $6m. I don't know how you pay an inept defensively defenceman that much.
