If the PP unit isn’t clicking I don’t see a huge deal rolling one of your top 2 lines since the chemistry might help. Obviously this isn’t a long term solution so I don’t see what the big deal is.

Yeah, it's usually one man change. The screener vs. another point-man who is a D.

So Evason tried something outside to box to get our stagnant power play firing, and it worked.

Not sure who pissed in your cheerios to come ranting in the main boards. This isnt even a new tactic either. Must not watch much hockey?

I get tone is hard to gather via a text base medium, but it was posted as a fun odditity as opposed to how dare he break from traditional hockey thought rant.

I couldn't care in the slightest.

This thread is humorous. HF routinely piles on NHL coaches because they are so resistant to change, even when things aren't going well. So, they try something different and get a bit of success....and are still piled on.

Who the heck is piling on them?

This thread is a mix of indifference, the stating of the more or less obvious rational of simplifying things cause they were obviously in their own heads, and people stating other times its been tried. There are maybe 2 mildly critical posts.

There are more posts from people complaining about complaining about it, then critical posts.

Must be a lot of fun to be a penalty-killing D watching the other team send out their energy line to dump the puck in for the sole purpose of sandwiching you when you go back to retrieve it.

A lot of Wild fans seem to be taking this as a sign that Evason has no idea what he is doing as a coach despite the fact that he is coaching a bad team to a winning record.

Devils should do this too. There's no practice time (for the Devils at least, literally no practices from here on out) and it's a short season. Not enough time to build better chemistry and reap the benefits

This seems really strange to me as Fiala has finally shown signs of breaking out in the recent games

He broke out last year. He was pretty snakebit to start this year, but he's gotten some to go in the last few games yeah. But regardless of all that, he's the second best forward we have at creating scoring chances, so it's baffling.

I hate to say this, but it kinda makes sense in a year like this year.

There's almost no practices. Teams just have to make adjustments in game, and have to do practice on the phones.

If a PP is abysmally failing, what's the point in keeping it together if you don't have practices to work on it?

Not that it was actual abandonment of a PP unit but the Lightning in 2011 had about a single minute to score a PP goal on any given chance and if you could survive that minute you were effectively done killing the penalty. The Lightning used to run something Steven Stamkos, Vinny Lecavalier, Marty St. Louis, Teddy Purcell and Victor Hedman on unit 1 and then follow it up with some mountain of 4th line shit like Nate Thompson, Tom Pyatt and Adam Hall.

The last 50 seconds of PP time would be pure "f*** it" and we'd practically kill the penalty for them using like half our penalty killers. Is it any wonder how we went from 1st place to 29th the following year in PP%

Similar to what Edmonton would run in 17/18 but we decided to say screw that and just play Drai and McD for 1:45 of every PP and had the best PP in the league last year lol
