Why September seems like a potential circus for the Bruins - The Boston Globe

Neely said the Bruins plan to bring 24 or 25 players to face the Calgary Flames in Shenzhen (Sept. 15) and Beijing (Sept. 19). It’s doubtful Cassidy wants to cut anyone from the team before such a long flight, so expect a mix of stars and clear-cut AHL players. The fights for roster spots will happen during home-and-home preseason series with Washington, Detroit, and Philadelphia.

“It’ll be a strong mix of our current roster and I think we’ll sprinkle in some players that our coaching staff would like to see where they’re at in their development, and if there’s opportunities for them,” Neely said. “It’ll be a very competitive group.”

For an exhibition game on any continent, NHL clubs must dress a minimum of eight veterans. The definition: 100 career games (skater or goalie) or 30 the previous season (skaters), and goalies who played in 30 or dressed in 50 the year before. Clubs can count a first-round pick from the previous draft.
