Why do the teams play 3 exhibition games before the actual tournament starts? I think it's idiotic. Teams wont play their best, and it will look like a bad NHL All-star game with no contact at all. Winning these games means jack, and players don't want to injure themselves before the group stage begin.

I bet players like Forsberg and Sundin wont even play in these games. This is beyond me, because as a fan i want to see the teams compete. It wont happen. I could see that they played 1 exhibition game, but 3?

:dunno:

Would you rather these teams play poorly in three meaningless exhibition games, or in their three round robin games?

They play exhibitions for the exact same reasons why every other team in the history of sport plays exhibitions: To get into game shape, and to determine what role each player will take on their team. One game is not enough to accomplish this.

I remember how Leetch injured Pasha Bure in Russia's 6-4 exhibition win over the US in 1996 ... and Russia couldn't line up Mogilny-Fedorov-Bure for the tournament!

Exactly what if Forsberg, Sundin or Naslund would get injured? Sweden's chances would pretty much go down the drain with a loss of one of them.

Yeah sure, but there's a preseason in the NHL too ... and a player could as well get hurt during a practice.

Of course the stars will play these games, they need it in order to get into game shape. But I would never buy a ticket to one of those games.

but it can cause unwantes injuries before the fun begins.

So can playing outside of game shape.

If you are afriad to get hurt, hockey isnt for you.
