You can find better players on waivers at the start of every season.

No offence to Hartnell, but his NHL career is over.

He'll sign...some time at the beginning of the season when teams know where they are. He's perfect for depth. If you had injuries..would you feel comfortable with a random AHL player or someone who could hold their own just long enough for the injured player to return.

fact is there are a slew of unsigned veteran F's (Matthias, Stafford, Stewart, Cammaleri, Jokinen, Winnick, Vermette, Versteeg, Ward, Hemsky, Chiasson, Stempniak, Pouliot, ... ) who (a) aren't what they were 4-5 years ago, and (b) likely won't contribute that much more than an up-and-coming young F on ELC or 2nd contract, or a breakout journeyman a la Derek Ryan

Yeah, I noticed that too..I was especially surprised to see Ward not signed. I thought he was alright still. Vermette is a great faceoff guys still and cammaleri..as bad as he is defensively is still quite offensive...PP specialist.

Old, slow, finished. Hartnell is a good dude and all but I remember seeing him in a restaurant in Philly during one summer and I was was blown away by how poor of shape he was in as a professional athlete. Like he literally had a bit of a belly and no definition whatsoever. He looked like regular dude with a dad bod who just left the golf course. I know when Jagr arrived in Philly, he urged Hartnell to train religiously and take fitness extremely seriously. I believe that year, Hartnell was in the best shape of his career. But seeing him in last year's playoffs with the chubby face and double chin, leads me to believe he's not in great condition. You need elite talent like Kessel to be able to perform in the NHL in poor condition. Hartnell never had that type of skill.

Kessel has excellent cardio and is one of the fastest players in the league. I thought his bloated appearance was because of his medication.

He scored 24 points in 62 games last season, why is he still unsigned?

im a lifetime fan of hartnall… I was a huge fan of my bruins putting in an offer for him last year. I was a huge fan of the Nashville signing and said they got one hell of a steal

but I was wrong about it being a steal. when I saw hartnall playing he looked pretty gassed. his heart still seemed willing but there just wasn't anything there to get the job done on the ice a lot of the time.

are we sure hes even looking for a job? most these heart and soul type players like to go out before they completely humiliate themselves. last season was a struggle but I wouldn't call it humiliating. my gut says that a guy with this much pride probably is looking at retirement and will just wait and announce it later when the team can have a special night for him

Page 3, I know I'm late to this but, can he play centre? He's always had the right attitude.

That'd be a no. His speed isn't there for that in today's game. But I still think he can contribute in an agitating/physical/netfront presence role as a winger.

Kessel is in poor condition?

Does he look like he is a world class athlete based on appearance?

This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on the HFBoards in my short time here. Beats out Demontreal’s fan fic of when he met Kris Letang.

"Fartsmell" was a favorite insult among Penguins fans, I believe I have even seen a custom Flyers jersey worn by one at a game with the Flyers at PPG.

Also, I personally did cross paths with Kris Letang once before a Flyers/Penguins game in PGH, which I often..."prepared for" quite heavily. Midway through preparations a friend and I decided to get coffee in order to stay awake, and in line at the local shop I couldn't stop staring at the immaculate wingtips worn by the short-ish, greasy-haired dude in front of me in a $7,000 suit. In my compromised mental state, never bothered looking at his face. On the way out, my friend pointed out that I had missed my chance to spill piping hot coffee on a valuable enemy agent just hours before a game. I'm OK with that. Kris Letang: regular ol' coffee drinker with a ridiculous wardrobe.
