Why can't Corey Conacher stick in the NHL?

You could probably put him on the top 6 on a crappy team and he'd put up 40 points, but it would be while being a -18. He's just not an NHL player.

He went 1-2-3 in 15 games on Tavares' wing, so 40 points might be a little high.

He's too small for the NHL. Guys that size either need to have a high hockey IQ or be quicker than everyone else and he just isn't. The skill set is there and is perfect for the AHL where everything is just a little bit slower.

He's punching above his weight class. He's 5'8" (on skates probably). He is "good", but he'd need to have some special quality to be a good NHLer. A lesser skilled player, who is bigger, will perform better in the NHL. It's evident in every puck battle, every time you protect the puck, every time you try and create room, even when skating and stickhandling.

A 6'4" player with a well built physique with Conacher's ability would be a top 6 player in the NHL, easily.
