Crazy that Svech dropped from #1 to #7 in one season...

I cant really argue against it though. Also after Svech there is a clear drop off in talent imo.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. He had a rough season, we added a lot of talent and some other guys had great years. It's pretty much the perfect storm for a big drop.

Thought about McIsaac, but Svech has more potential to be an impact player at his position. I chalk up last year's struggles to growing pains.

My add is Kotkonsalo, but Petruzzelli is on my radar.

Svech easily for this one.

The main thing I've started to notice is no prospects drafted beyond the 2nd round really stand out, except maybe Filip Larsson. All of our top 10 guys could be 1st or 2nd round picks if the next three are McIssac, Lindstrom, Smith.

We've had 15 picks in the 3rd round or later over the last two drafts, including 7 thirds, would be nice to see a guy or two take some big steps forward to really bolster the prospect pool.

We’ve taken a lot of bigger guys in those rounds, and finding big AND skill later in the draft is not going to be easy. You might eventually find someone who makes it but having too much of a size focus and avoiding smaller players will inevitably shrink the pool of available skill significantly. Especially in the later rounds when making compromises is a necessity.

6’0 is pretty close to average in today’s NHL but how many 6’0 or smaller players have we taken in those rounds 3-7 recently? Just a quick look shows maybe 7 out of 46 picks. After the 2010 draft there has been a clear focus on more size.

Add Setkov

Setkov is looking really promising. Darkhorse prospect.

Don’t forget about Saarijarvi. He’s going to take longer than these other guys but he has a ton of offensive ability. Hopefully he has a big summer in the weight room.

On pure talent, he is a top 10 guy in our system IMO.
