Like others have mentioned, Evans may be the better player at the moment (which could be debated with the way Poehling is playing in the last few weeks ), but he's also 2 1/2 years older than Poehling.

Poehling has 7 goals, 8 assists in his last 14 games. This is the type of production you'd like to see from your first rounder. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come with him and he can become a solid player for the Habs in the near future.

Poehling and it’s not really close. Evans is a nice story, but he clearly has some limitations, notably with size/strength. Poehling is also more talented.

They are carbon copies. Poehling has zero offensive capabilities. This team needs offense, he is a carbon copy of Jake Evans. Last year scored 2 points in 27 games and 0 points in Laval after being sent down. Poor guy , his hat trick made people think he was an offensive player. never has been, was 6th in scoring on St. Cloud. The problem habs have now is scoring, Poehling will be 3rd or 4th line defensive centre at best.

Long term it's got to be Poehling. I mean he does have the higher upside but Evans has been fantastic in the past few seasons, everywhere he has gone from NCAA to AHL he has been outstanding. Not only about getting a superstar, but having legit # 3 and 4 centers long term is great for this team. I think both long term are for sure #3 centers and possibly Poehling being on a 2nd line down the road.

He's got more offensive skills than Evans lol, Evans is an energy player with low offensive skills.

And that’s ok because Poehling is almost 3 years younger.

I think Poehlings ultimate upside is higher, while Evan’s is more of a lock to become what we project he will be.

Using the old HF ranking system I’d say

Poehling 7.0C
Evan’s 6.0B

omg these old rankings it’s been a while haha I would be curious to rank our top 10 prospect with those rankings

Maybe Poehling can even be a decent 2C or 2nd line winger. someday. As we see with some players progression is not linear. Look at Danault. I’m just saying let’s not rush to say he’ll only cap out at a bottom sixer. Still has lots of time to develop.

Tough to say right now. Evans is playing on the fourth line in the NHL, poehling on the first in the A. Both should become bottom line center. Poehling should produce more and be more physical.

Wasnt Evans killing it in the A (PPG) after he was about to get scratched? He did his work down in the A, Poehling doing it this year.

Will be interesting to see how Poehling plays at the next level

Poehling will probably be an elite 3C if developed well. Jake Evans might be a decent 3C but looks to be an elite 4C for a competitive team in the future
Is there such a thing as a "elite 3rd line center"?

Is there such a thing as a "elite 3rd line center"?

Guy Carbanneau is the greatest self proclaimed third line centre of all time. Yes, Jordan Staal was an elite 3rd line C on the Penguins. Bonino was an elite 3rd line C during the Penguins back to back. Nazem Kadri in his last year with the leafs was an elite 3rd line C.

If you can get at least 40-50 points while playing shut down defense or taking a specialist role while playing behind two top 6 C's, you are an elite 3C.

Evans has played a ton of games in the NHL compared to Poehling. So for now, Evans is better. Poehling had a higher ceiling, but it is unrealised, and he only started recently to string a lot of good games together. Maybe he has gotten over his Fortnight addiction and has started training more. Don’t know. I hope he realizes his potential because he could help the team.

Yes, Evans had a really good camp but was sent down, he struggled badly, was told in the morning skate he would be a healthy scratch but I believe there was a call up so they had to dress him that night. He scored into an empty net late in the game for his 1st pt of the season and was a ppg the rest of the way (38 games I believe)

But keep in mind that was during his age 23 season. Poehling is in his age 21 season.

They had very similar seasons in the NCAA at 19,

Poehling -
3682331+1234
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Evans -
3782533+1529
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Now Poehling was on the best team in the NCAA, Evans team was pretty good that year as they had strong goaltending.
