Sandin or Dermott.
wouldn't move either barring an overpayment, but Dermott is more proven so its him id keep
Both are awesome and both should be kept. But Sandin's upside isnt really any higher than Dermott's that it would be worth the gamble
Draft develop not draft and trade
Dermott is going nowhere... Gards replacement next year.
I was expecting a Kap vs Willy thread.
The easiest answer to this question is neither.
Looking at the Ryan McDonagh trade as a template, depending on how you feel about Brett Howden, I don't see a Sandin or a Dermott level player going back to the Blues.
I'd trade Liljegren.
I'd agree, but it seems like Dubas is looking to add another long term player like Tavares rather than a rental.
I'd wait till the summer of 2020. If Pietrangelo really wants to be a leaf than we hold Marleau this year but let his contract expire next year, deal our
2020 1st and Zaitsev to clear space(if no one is willing to take him)
Then rolled dermott, Pie, Rielly, sandin, lilijgren, and rosen/borgamn/2019 1st rhd. If we cam find a way to fit pie long term as a green agent go for it. But dont deal any assets. Stay the course and use picks on guys with high end ceilings who if they have a big post draft year will see there value rise quick.
IMO, forwards are way more impactful than defencemen.
I'd rather keep both Kap and Willy and trade one of Demott/Sandin.
One thing to consider is that Dermott needs to be protected for the expansion draft.
If the leafs are confident that Sandin is as good as Dermott, which is reasonable considering the fact that Sandin is doing what 20 year old Dermott did in the AHL as an 18 year old, then they should be more willing to trade Dermott than Sandin.
This will prolly be a really unpopular take but I would rather give up Liljegren than either Dermott or Sandin.
Of course this depends on the idea that the leafs are comfortable re-signing Pietrangelo for $9-10 million. I'm not so sure of that.
Everything considered. The leafs are in a great position here. They're well set for the future, whether they keep both or trade one for an older top pair defenceman.
You protect Rielly, Pietro, and Dermott.
I said similar.....
I'm uncertain about Lily. He has traits of a top 4 NHL defenceman.
I think what makes people undervalue him is the fact that he has a nonchalant style in the d-zone that's reminiscent of Gardiner.
I've been underwhelmed with his offensive production (3 goals in basically 65 games is pretty bad for a top flight defensive prospect).
Still a real good prospect but hasn't quite produced like I had expected considering the hype around his offensive upside.
I'm no pro scout tho.
Like we saw in the last expansion draft, there will be guys to add. If the leafs keep Sandin over Dermott they can add another top 4 d-man at the expansion draft.
Man, the really missed an opportunity at the last one keeping Carrick over guys like Schmidt, Miller and McNabb.
He's playing top pair AHL minutes as a 19 year old. I'm not worried about points. I've always known that he's not going to be a point machine. He's a guy that can push play offensively. Which fits perfectly with what Dubas wants.
As long as you aren't comparing Dermott to Carrick.
But even the way I propose, you still have Rielly, Pietro, Dermott, and Sandin. In all likelihood the Leafs be swapping out Dermott for someone who is similar or worse calibre, as I see #2/3 ceiling for him.
Meh. Dermott has a higher floor since he's in the NHL. Sandin is showing a lot better at the same age then dermott was and has a higher upside.
Trading Sandin makes us better now vs trading dermott Might make us better in the future.
Hope your right.
I'm just not as high on him as others but again I've only watched a handful of his marlies games/wjc/leafs preseason.
Mostly stat watching and that can be a dangerous analysis of a players true abilities.
