I wanna see Ovi lead the league in assists, and win the Art Ross and the Selke, but pot only 19 goals and Crosby get 66 goals. HF would crash worse than Clarkson trade.

Ovechkin is by far the best goal scorer in the league, even last year

I'll count Ovi out only if Ovi counts Ovi out. Until then, Ovi.

Most of the arguments for the field are expecting players who had career years to either match or improve. That's very possible but also unlikely "until proven otherwise". Ovechkin is the dominant ruler until he is unseated. This could be there year he finally starts to show his age. It could also be his 9th 50 goal season and 9th Richard. I still have to go with Ovechkin until someone unseats him.

Well hopefully you haven't wagered on this over the last 6 or 7 years.. If so you would be in the hole quite a bit!!

I predict at some point, maybe this year, Ovechkin will no longer be an otherworldly mutant and then some posters on HF will say, "See, I told you he was bound for a regression."

OV's getting older. He's still far and away favorite for the Rocket but is he favorite against the field? I don't know. Possibly.

Still though, I won't bet against him in goals race.

eh Ovechkins won 6 of the last 7 rockets at this point including the last two

that deserves the benefit of the doubt

probably the same people that said he was done after 2011-12 and 2016-17 too

He'll be 33 this year. What he's done is amazing but I expect one of the young guns to take it.

He'll be 27 this year. What he's done is amazing but I expect one of the young guns to take it.

only one of those turned out to be true and it wasn't either of the past two years(and even that one was a 29 year old Crosby and not one of the early 20s types that normally wins it)

it's tough to win a rocket when you aren't in your early to mid 20s but Ovechkin has proven time and time again to be the exception, some day he'll be done winning them but picking a specific year is just asking to look silly

The point in mentioning age is that it’s just a reality. Time isn’t on his side.

What he’s done is incredible, but with each passing year it becomes less and less likely he will stay at the top.

34 years old is getting up there for an NHL player, and it’s not a stretch to suggest he’s going to hit a sharp decline soon.

He won the rocket by a margin of 1 goal. A lot of young goal scorers have emerged that could challenge him as they enter their prime years.

Nope I'm serious. Ovi's down years he had 32 and 33 goals. He's aging too. He's done scoring 40 or 50.

    Ovi is definitely the favourite.

His goal scoring no longer depends on speed. He positions himself in his office on the PP and plays the full 2 minutes. Even at even strength, he is extremely smart in his positioning with most plays designed around him in orderto find him in open space. He has wisely transformed his game such that speed and age aren’t a significant factor.

I would pick Ovechkin to win over any other player, but I'll pick the field over just Ovechkin.

It's amazing that we are having this conversation. Goal scoring is a young man's game traditionally, and Ovie is almost 34. The guy is not human.

Mcdavid will win the Rocket when they take Draisaitl off of his line and he has no wingers to pass to...

I'm going to point out the obvious here, if you are lucky enough to be alive you are aging.

This is why trying to apply historical norms from other players to Ovechkin well, ever, but specially in an argument about his decline is a risky position to take. He's proven to not be normal so continuing to try and show horn him into them is usually a mistake.

I don't really see a link between his down years and upcoming aging years. His down years were because of dumb coach and injuries, they weren't a preview of whats coming.
